  • Publication number: 20240152980
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a distance travelled by a vehicle for the purpose of assessing and settling, a road usage charge allows for determining a distance travelled with a vehicle. A mobile device can acquire odometer values which are subsequently reported to a system that confirms the distance drive and determines a road usage charge. Once the actual distance travelled by the vehicle is determined by the system, a road usage charge can be determined. Fuel excise taxes paid by the vehicle operator for fuel used by the vehicle and tolls can be subtracted from the road usage charae to determine a road usage settlement amount that can be paid from, or refunded to a financial account associated with the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 11907929
Abstract: Mobile devices are each associated with a respective toll account and are also configured to periodically report their location and related information while traveling in a vehicle, which is used to determine any applicable toll fees. In order to avoid assessing the toll fee to each account, a server of a tolling service first identifies mobile devices that are traveling together based on the location information, and then determines which of the mobile devices, if any, has indicated that it is connected to the vehicle audio system. The account associated with the mobile device connected to the vehicle audio system will be assessed the full toll fee, and the accounts associated with the other mobile devices will not be charged.

  • Patent number: 11902855
Abstract: A mobile device periodically determines its location and compares its location to a set of user-authorized geofenced region definitions. The proximity to any of the geofenced regions, as determines how often the mobile device determines its location (location sampling), and how it handles location information. Initially, when the mobile device is well outside of any of the geofenced regions a low location sampling rate is used. When the mobile device is within any of the geofenced regions, location information is transmitted, generally, to a backend server over a network. When the mobile device is not within any of the geofenced regions, transmission of location information can be inhibited. Further, when the mobile device is within a threshold distance of one of the geofenced regions, the sampling rate can be increased.

  • Patent number: 11900733
Abstract: Location polygons are defined along traffic lanes and parking spaces to facilitate determination of the location of a vehicle relative to features associated with the location polygons. The location polygons are used, in one application, to identity entrance and exit of a special toll lane along a roadway, and to ensure that the vehicle properly enters and exits the tolling lane. The location polygons define geofenced regions, and each definition for a geofenced region can include one or more rules that are used to evaluate location information reported by a user's equipment. The rules dictate whether an action it taken or inhibited, such as charging a toll or not charging a toll, based on other location information reported by the user's equipment.

  • Publication number: 20230410539
Abstract: A tolling system is operable to reduce the number of manual reviews of a toll point images needed to process toll fee charges by separately reporting from both toll points and mobile device in vehicles running a tolling application program the lane and crossing time when traversing a toll point. A tolling service can match records produced by the toll points with records providing by the mobile device when the toll point cannot immediately determine the identity of the toll customer passing through the toll point.

  • Publication number: 20230389914
Abstract: The invention involves a retraction distraction blade system suitable for use with retractor and distractor tools for the implantation of intervertebral implants into the spine area of an animal, particularly humans. The retractor distractor blade includes structures for attaching the blade to a retractor or distractor tool to provide visual access to a surgical site. The blade is provided with a threaded member connected to a flexible lasso for securement around a portion of a pedicle screw or bone screw. Once the lasso is secured to the pedicle screw, the retractor is prevented from moving out of the surgical site. Operation of the distractor or retractor tool can then be utilized to provide distraction to the spinal vertebrae for implant insertion or spinal alignment. Once the procedure is sufficiently complete, the lasso can be removed from the pedicle screws.

  • Publication number: 20230355286
Abstract: A length adjustable modular screw includes a neck assembly and a shank. The neck assembly has proximal and distal ends and includes an expander component and a collet component that are slidably engagable by insertion of the expander component in a through channel of the collet component along a common axis. The length adjustable modular screw also includes a shank suitable for insertion and retention within a bone, the shank including a threaded portion between proximal and distal ends and a socket adapted to coaxially receive at least a portion of the distal end of the neck assembly. The length adjustable modular screw has a length that is selected by splaying at least a portion of the distal end of the engaged expander and collet components of the neck assembly within the socket of the shank.

  • Publication number: 20230355250
Abstract: A surgical guidance device is cannulated for passage of a guidewire or pin and includes a hand grip and differential control assembly for driving the guidewire or pin and differentially driving a screw, such as but not limited to a pedicle screw, into bone. The differential control assembly resides in a housing, and includes a differential control assembly for gripping and locking or releasing the guidewire or pin and effecting directional movement (relative to the user holding the surgical guidance device) either distally into the bone or proximally away from bone to thereby drive or retract the guidewire. The differential control assembly also allows distal or proximal drive of a screw, such that one or both the guidewire and screw can be passed proximally or distally alone or together.

  • Publication number: 20230320728
Abstract: The invention involves a system and method for utilizing tools larger than the cannula bore of an endoscope in an endoscopic procedure. The system includes an endoscope having a cannula with an open or ported distal end. The ported distal end allows the shaft of an elongated tool having an oversized functional distal end to extend through the port with the oversized end in front of cannula bore. The tool and endoscope cannula are placed through a dilator tube that extends from outside the patient to the surgical site. A removeable and re-attachable handle is securable to the shaft of the oversized tool, which allows the surgeon to manipulate the tool through the cannula while visualizing the procedure utilizing the endoscope. This construction allows the surgeon to utilize tools that are too large to fit through the cannula of the endoscope including curettes, rasps, burrs, trials, Kerrison's, shavers and inserters.

  • Publication number: 20230293217
Abstract: Briefly, the invention relates to a surgical tool and method for forming a pilot bore by inserting a guide wire into bone. The surgical tool is constructed and arranged for use in conjunction with X-ray or ultrasound machines. More particularly, the device includes a cannulated hand grip and driving tool used for the rotation of a bone or pedicle screw into bone. The rear portion of the hand grip includes a slide assembly that is suited to grip a guide wire. The slide assembly includes a user adjustable stop to control the sliding movement of the guide wire. The rear surface of the slide is constructed to be impacted with a hammer or similar device, whereby the stop prevents the guide wire from penetrating the bone further than desired. Should it be desired that the wire be retracted, a jack member is included to allow the wire to be precisely retracted.

  • Patent number: 11701142
Abstract: The invention relates to a trajectory guidance instrument that is securable to a surgical tool for use in conjunction with X-ray machines. More particularly, the device includes a radiolucent outrigger having radiodense indicia disposed on the outrigger so that the radiodense indicia is visible via an X-ray machine to provide an angular trajectory for the instrument. The outrigger is securable to various surgical tools for the purpose of providing real time trajectory guidance to surgeons during a procedure. In general, the precision trajectory guidance instrument comprises a substantially rigid outrigger device which it securable to a portion of the surgical tool for trajectory guidance. The trajectory guidance instrument may be attached with clips, fasteners, adhesives, hook and loop or the like.

  • Patent number: 11676425
Abstract: A system and method for dividing toll charges among vehicle occupants includes, at a mobile device, receiving identifying information for each vehicle occupant that can be used to verify the identity of the occupant. The identifying information can be biometric in nature, including images or voice prints. The information is provided to tolling service with which each of the occupants has an account. Toll charges that accrue as the vehicle travels are then divided or split among the vehicle occupants.
