The cell pack assembly includes battery cells that collectively define a volume, wherein each battery cell includes a body, an anode extending from the body, and a cathode extending from the body. The body of each cell is configured to expand and contract. When the detector determines that the volume of the battery cells meets or exceeds a threshold volume, the detector is configured to generate a signal configured to warn the operator of a status of the stack or stop current from flowing to and from the battery cells.
