  • Patent number: 6445866
Abstract: An optical fiber interconnection apparatus includes a flat flexible body member defined by a peripheral edge void of any projections. A plurality of optical fibers are mounted to the body member so that their ends extend beyond the peripheral edge and the ends of a plurality of the fibers extend to different locations of the edge. A method of fabricating the interconnection apparatus includes providing a flat release substrate onto which the flat flexible body member is adhered. After the optical fibers are mounted to the body member, the assembly of the body member and fibers are peeled off of the release substrate.

  • Patent number: 6209162
Abstract: A system is provided for cleaning the end of a ferrule of a fiber optic connector mounted on a backplane of a chassis adapted for receiving a printed circuit board having a mating connector mateable with the fiber optic connector. A dummy circuit board is receivable by the chassis to replace the actual printed circuit board. A cleaner is mounted on the dummy circuit board for cleaning the end of the ferrule of the fiber optic connector when the dummy circuit board is received by the chassis.

  • Patent number: 6209163
Abstract: A cleaner is disclosed for cleaning the end of a ferrule of a fiber optic connector. The cleaner includes a housing having a mating portion for mating the cleaner with the fiber optic connector. A supply of a cleaning medium is mounted in the housing. An advancing mechanism is mounted on the housing for advancing the cleaning medium past the ferrule end of the fiber optic connector when the cleaner is mated with the connector.

  • Patent number: 5347603
Abstract: A right angle strain relief system is provided for an optical fiber cable. A fiber optic connector terminates a fiber of the cable on a longitudinal connector axis. A right angle strain relief boot extends from a rear of the connector and has a cable-receiving passage therethrough. The boot has a first leg portion and a second leg portion joined by a bend. The first leg portion is on the longitudinal connector axis and defines a proximal end of the boot coupled to the rear of the connector. The second leg portion extends transversely of the longitudinal connector axis and defines an open distal end of the boot from which the optical fiber cable extends. The boot is rotatable relative to the connector about the longitudinal connector axis. A slot is provided in the boot extending from the open distal end thereof generally to at least the bend in the boot.
