Abstract: A composition comprising selectively hydrogenated block copolymers (a) and (b having peak molecular weights of 150-1,000 kg/mol, 6-60 kg/mol, respectively, is disclosed. Component (a) comprises one or more structures A-B-A, (A-B-A)nX, A-(B-A)n, and (A-B)nX. Component (b) comprises one or more structures C-D, D-C-D, and (D-C)nX. The value of “n” is 1-30, and “X” is a residue of a coupling agent. Before hydrogenation, blocks A and C, are vinyl aromatic polymer blocks; and blocks B and D are polymer blocks comprising 60-100 mol % of one or more conjugated dienes and 0-40 mol % of a vinyl aromatic monomer. The HSBC compositions and TPE blends exhibits good elasticity, good processability, low extractables, and low compression set.

  • Patent number: 11739208
Abstract: A hydrogenated block copolymer is disclosed comprising a polymer block A and a polymer block B. Prior to hydrogenation, the polymer block A has a first vinyl aromatic compound, and the polymer block B contains monomers a) a styrene compound having a radical reactive group and b) at least one conjugated diene, and optionally (c) a second vinyl aromatic compound that is same or different from the first vinyl aromatic compound. The repeat units of monomer a) forms 10-80 wt. % of the total block copolymer, and 10-70 wt. % of the total weight of block B. After hydrogenation, the polymerized units derived from the monomer b) has a RU of 0-1.5 meq per gram of the hydrogenated block copolymer. The hydrogenated block copolymer exhibits reactivity and higher flow properties before curing, after curing, shows excellent mechanical properties, improved flame resistance, and good solvent resistance.

The HSBC has a total vinyl aromatic content of 15 to 60 wt. % and an aromatic blockiness index of 20 to 80%. The viscoelastic properties of HSBC show a value of a tan ? peak height of 0.7 to 2, a tan ? peak temperature of ?40 to 25° C., and a temperature width value (in ° C.) at half the tan ? peak height of 17 to 40. The HSBC provides improved mechanical properties and can be used in preparation of adhesives and protective films applications.

  • Patent number: 11525025
Abstract: A styrenic block copolymer having one or more polymer blocks A and one or more polymer blocks B is disclosed, where “A” is a poly(vinylaromatic) block having a molecular weight of greater than 5 kg/mol. The “B” block has a molecular weight of more than 15 kg/mol, and comprises polymerized 1,3-diene units and vinylaromatic units, wherein the polymerized vinylaromatic units represent 5-40 wt. % of the overall weight of the block “B”. The polymerized 1,3-diene units comprise more than 80 wt. % of polymerized isoprene units in which 45-80 mol % are 1,4-isoprene addition units. The blocks “A” and “B” represent from >5 to <40 wt. %, and >33 to <95 wt. %, respectively, relative to the overall weight of the block copolymer. The polymers have physical properties that make them valuable, e.g., as vibration damping materials.

  • Publication number: 20220298351
Abstract: A silane functionalized block copolymer (SiHSBC) is disclosed comprising: 80 to 99.90 wt. % of a hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer (HSBC) and 0.1 to 20 wt. % of a silane, based on the total weight of the SiHSBC. The HSBC is obtained by hydrogenation of a styrenic block copolymer (SBC) comprising at least one polymer block A derived from a vinyl aromatic monomer, and at least one polymer block B derived from a conjugated diene monomer. The polymer block B has greater than 80 wt. % of a polymerized 1,3-butadiene monomer, based on the total weight of the polymerized conjugated diene monomer in the polymer block B. The SiHSBC as well as thermoplastic elastomer composition containing the SiHSBC show improved adhesion to polar and non-polar substrates without the need of an adhesive layer or primer layer.
