Abstract: A conveying roll has a cover (20) mounted on a bearing point (40) so that the conveying roll can be twisted relative to the bearing point (40) about an axis of rotation. A brake (50) is provided kinematically between the bearing point (40) and the cover (20) and is designed so the difficulty of twisting the cover relative to the bearing point about the axis of rotation varies in accordance with relative rotational speed between the cover (20) and the bearing point (40). An impeding device (60) is disposed between the bearing point (40) and the cover (20) at a point in the braking train of the brake and allows or prevents the brake to have or from having a braking effect in accordance with a direction of rotation of the cover relative to the bearing point (40).
