Abstract: A method for processing a subtitle data stream of a video program includes: receiving the subtitle data stream, wherein subtitle data carried by the subtitle data stream is originally stored with an image format; performing optical character recognition (OCR) on the subtitle data carried by the subtitle data stream in order to derive a subtitle text stream; and processing the subtitle text stream to generate a processed subtitle image, and tagging the processed subtitle image onto an image of the video program. An associated video display system including a demultiplexer and a processing module is also provided.

Abstract: An automated product registration system registers a product in response to an incoming telephone call. Outbound telephonic notifications are sent based on user responses during the product registration. The notification can be a product recall alert, information about a complementary product and/or new feature the user showed interest in, and/or an option to extend warranty coverage. The system can transfer the user to a live agent when the user requests more information.

Abstract: A system is responsive to voice commands and requests from a user to access and search distributed data resources. The system may include a speech recognition engine configured to receive a spoken command from the user. A processor is configured to identify a service requested by the user from the spoken command. A search engine is configured to associate the user with other services providing offerings available to the user. A speech synthesizer provides an output to the user that conveys the requested information. The processor may be configured to respond to a spoken selection made by the user to selectively provide the requested information and the offerings to the user. The speech synthesizer is responsive to the processor for converting the information retrieved from the selected service in a format that is audible to the user.

Abstract: An alloying system for preparing a titanium alloy, the system comprising a rotating mill to mechanically alloy a mixture of elemental powders in predetermined proportions, the elemental powders including titanium particles, alpha stabilizer particles and beta stabilizer particles; wherein the mixture is mechanically alloyed using low impact energy to layer the titanium particles with beta stabilizer particles whereby sintering of the mechanically alloyed mixture produces alternate layers of alpha and beta stabilizer particles.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to accessing an inventory management system and provide a method, system and computer program product for allocating inventory using a common inventory interface for ordering and payment systems. In one embodiment of the invention, an e-commerce data processing system can include an order entry component configured for coupling to an inventory management system irrespective of an underlying inventory allocation strategy for the inventory management system. The system further can include an inventory management system implementing an underlying inventory allocation strategy and realizing a common inventory interface exposing a check inventory method operable to report an available state for an inventory item irrespective of an underlying strategy for the inventory management system. Finally, the system yet further can include a payment capture component configured for coupling to the order entry component.

Abstract: A notification system and an automated product registration system are disclosed. The notification system may contact multiple persons simultaneously and use text-to-speech to speak a message to each person over the phone. The notification system may first determine whether a live person has answered the phone before speaking the message. The notification system may be used in conjunction with an automated voice-activated product registration system.

Abstract: Metal-metal or metal-ceramic/carbide composite materials are fabricated by combination of powder injection molding and infiltration. This is achieved by first forming a composite system having a matrix component and an infiltrant layer. The matrix component is formed from a metal or ceramic/carbide powder, that is of a higher melting point, admixed with a first binder. The infiltrant layer is formed from a metal powder, that is of a lower melting point, admixed with a second binder. The first and second binders are subsequently removed from the composite system during a debinding process. The composite system is then heated in a sintering furnace to coalesce the matrix component into a matrix phase having a network of interconnected pores, and to effect infiltration of the infiltrant layer into these pores to form the composite material of the present invention.

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of a system, method and computer program product for interactive voice notification is disclosed. The method for notifying a user of an event can include the steps of: receiving user input on notification criteria; listening for an event; detecting the event; calling the user by telephone when the detected event matches the notification criteria; requesting a user response indicating a live person answered the telephone; receiving the user response indicating the live person answered the telephone; and providing the user with information about the event. In one embodiment, the method can further include: requesting a user authentication; determining if the user authentication is valid; and not providing the user with the information about the even if the authentication is not valid. In another exemplary embodiment, the method can further include: storing the detected event in a database; and querying the database for events matching the notification criteria.

Abstract: The subject invention includes fruits with elevated potassium and the non-naturally salt tolerant occurring plants that produce fruit with elevated potassium when cultivated under elevated salt conditions. The present invention also includes methods of making such fruits and plants. One preferred method is generating a transgenic plant that has an ectopically expressed NHX related gene product.

Abstract: A scan-print device is hand-held and is scanned over the surface of a paper-like rewritable sheet. The sheet has a colorant responsive to a linear array of pixel-sized electric fields written over the sheet by the scan-print device during each scan, producing a bistable pixel (e.g., black or white) in response to field polarity. The bi-stable, rewritable colorant is highly energy efficient, requiring energy only to change an image, not to hold or illuminate it. Once a series of scans sufficient to cover the entire sheet has been made, the printed image appears as if printed conventionally. The print remains stable until reprinted or intentionally erased. Combined with hand-held scanner-copier technology, a portable copier is also implemented.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of hermetically sealed electronically active microstructures involves the preparation of a plurality of microstructures and associated conductive paths and lead bond areas on a single wafer such that areas surrounding the microstructures are maintained in a planar condition. A second wafer having a plurality of microstructure-receiving cavities is placed atop the first wafer and fusion or anodically bonded. The microstructures are preferably connected to lead bond pads which lie outside the surround, the second wafer also having bond pad accessing through-holes to facilitate bonding electrical leads to the devices after sawing from the wafer. The lead-connected devices may be further encapsulated by injection molding, potting, or other conventional encapsulative packaging techniques.

Abstract: An automotive fuel injector having a fluorine-coating amphorous hydronated carbon film coating to resist the formation of carbonaceous deposits thereon. The fluorine-coating amphorous hydronated carbon film is made in part form trifluoromethyltrimethylsilane. The coating helps the fuel injector resist coking or the growth of hard carbonaceous deposits. This reduction in coking and deposits improves the fuel economy and engine performance.
