  • Publication number: 20060181503
Abstract: A backlight display has improved display characteristics. An image is displayed on the display which includes a liquid crystal material with a light valve. The display receives an image signal, modifies the light valve with an overdrive for a first region of the image based upon the timing of the illumination of the region, and modifies the light valve with an overdrive for a second region of the image based upon the timing of the illumination of the second region.

  • Publication number: 20060103621
Abstract: A method for displaying an image on a liquid crystal display that includes a plurality of light emitting elements and a light valve. A image signal is received and a first light emitting element is illuminated based upon a substantial maximum of a non-uniform image signal in a first region. A second light emitting element is illuminated based upon a substantial maximum of a non-uniform image signal in a second region including, where the first and second light emitting elements are simultaneously illuminated.

  • Patent number: 6995866
Abstract: A method for background adjustment. A background lightness level in an original image is estimated. Pixels are then converted to a luminance-chrominance color space. Pixels have lightness levels equal to the background lightness level are mapped to a value corresponding to white as background pixels. Chroma values for the background pixels are compared to a threshold and adjusted as needed, either by adjusting the lightness value or by removing the chrominance values. The luminance-chrominance data is then converted to output space.

  • Patent number: 6987880
Abstract: An imaging system includes an imaging sensing device sensing an object having a first background color and a backing in opposing relationship with the object having a second background color which is substantially the same as the first background color. The imaging system determines at least one general bounding region of the object based upon a shadow cast onto backing by the object.
