The electrical signal includes first and second signal portions in first and second frequency bands, respectively, the electrical signal having been generated from an optical signal that corresponds to the transmission signal.     Abstract: In certain embodiments, a system includes an optical switch matrix, an optical lens coupled to the switch matrix, and a wireless transmitter coupled to the lens. The switch matrix is configured to switch first optical signals from input ports to output ports of the switch matrix, and output second optical signals that are based at least partially on the first optical signals. The lens is configured to transform wave formats of the second optical signals based on the output ports over which the second optical signals are received. The transmitter includes an antenna array and circuitry coupled to the array. The circuitry is configured to receive the second optical signals from the lens, convert the second optical signals into beamformed wireless signals in accordance with the transformed formats, and transmit the beamformed wireless signals, which signals have spatial characteristics in accordance with the transformed formats, over the array.

    Abstract: A hybrid combination of analog RF beamforming and digital pre-coding is used to improve signal-to-noise ratio and mitigate interference as between an RF base station and a plurality of wireless receivers within a cell area of the base station. Feedback overhead for beamforming training may be reduced by using indices for identifying the preferred beams of each wireless receiver. Scheduling for channel training may be based on identifying non-colliding ones of the RF beams and assigning these to corresponding wireless receivers which can best use the assigned beams in shared transmission slots.

    Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for decoding a transport block encoded with multiple codeblock segments. User equipment determines whether to decode one of a transport block cyclic redundancy check (CRC) and a codeblock segment CRC based on a speed of user equipment. In response to the speed of the user equipment being greater than a threshold, the user equipment decodes the transport block CRC and generates an acknowledgement (ACK)/non-acknowledgement (NAK). In response to the speed of the UE being less than or equal to the threshold, during a first data transmission, the user equipment decodes the codeblock segment CRC for each of the multiple codeblock segments and generates the ACK/NAK. During a second and latter data transmissions, the user equipment decodes the codeblock segment CRC for each of the multiple codeblock segments that failed in the first data transmission and generates the ACK/NAK.

Efficient expressions for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) symbol mean and variance calculations are utilized with efficient expressions and implementations that are adaptive to different orders of QAM formats. An EU circuit includes a mean estimation unit (MEU) circuit and/or second moment estimation unit (SEU) circuit. Each estimation unit circuit is configured to receive a variable QAM normalization factor so that the circuit can be adapted to different QAM orders. Each MEU or SEU circuit can be configured for sequential and/or parallel processing. A pool including multiple MEU circuits and/or a pool including multiple SEU circuits is provided in one embodiment, with a control unit for configuring and reconfiguring the pools of circuits for mean and variance estimation for data streams of QAM symbols.

The optimal threshold value, a first output flag and a second output flag associated with a currently loaded decision node is read from the decision tree in the memory, and the sampled first analog input signal is compared with the optimal threshold value and, based on a result of the comparison, a next decision node is loaded from the decision tree stored in memory according to the address associated with the currently loaded decision node or the digital output signal is output.

A radio network node detects user location information from user equipment in a geographic region, where the geographic region includes a location cluster having multiple location levels. A location signature profile is formed for each level based on the location signature of a corresponding location level in the cluster, and a filter is generated for each level based on the location signature. Upon application of the filter that matches the location level of the location user information, the channel is estimated and the user location information is updated based on the channel estimation. The process is repeated until the user location information converges with a preselected convergence value.
