    Abstract: A vehicle window wiper system has wipers 12 with a range of motion between an in-wipe position I and an out-wipe position O when the wiper system is in a run mode, and a variable park range for the wipers between the in-wipe position I and a depressed park position P when the system is in a park mode. The wiper system has a reversible motor 40 for rotating a shaft 42 in a first direction when in the run mode and through a first predetermined arc in a counter direction when in the park mode. A clutch mechanism 38 mechanically connected with the shaft 42 has a lock pin 64 which operates to prevent reverse rotation of the clutch mechanism 38 when in the run mode and to secure the clutch mechanism 38 in a predetermined position when in the park mode. The lock pin 64 also stabilizes the clutch mechanism 38 when the wiper system is transitioning from the park mode to the run mode.

    Abstract: A vehicle window wiping system has an integrated depressed park and snow pack mechanism providing a variable depressed park wiper position. The system has a dual direction motor which rotates a lost motion mechanism having a drivepin attached to a drive arm for converting rotary motion of the lost motion mechanism to oscillatory motion of the window wipers. The lost motion mechanism has a baseplate separably connected to a crank and linkedly connected to the drivepin for changing the radius of rotation thereof when the crank reaches a first predetermined position upon reversal of motor direction. The lost motion mechanism also has a snow pack plate separably connected to the crank and linkedly connected to the drivepin for permitting the crank to rotate to a second predetermined position upon reversal of shaft direction in the event that a snowpack condition on the vehicle window prevents the wipers from moving to a full depressed park position.

The system also includes an arm for positioning a wiper blade against the windshield. The wiper blade forms an angle of inclination with respect to a normal to the windshield. Gears connected to the pivot shaft and to the arm provide reversal of the angle of inclination when rotation of the pivot shaft reverses.

    Abstract: An adjustable arm load mechanism for an automotive windshield wiper is provided in which a load-adjusting linkage assembly is provided between the pivot shaft of the windshield wiper assembly and the wiper arm. The linkage assembly includes a cam member operative with a lever to effect variation of the spring load imposed upon the wiper arm in response to reversing reciprocal rotative movement of the pivot shaft so that wiper arm load is reduced at its extreme positions and increased in its intermediate positions.
