  • Patent number: 9548793
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting and analyzing discontinuities in a communications link are disclosed. In some embodiments, the systems and methods operate to project signals into the communications link and detecting reflected signals. The reflected signals are processed to define a transformed distribution of the reflected signals. A peak value in the transformed distribution is selected and a local fit to the selected peak value is performed using a model function. A residue distribution is formed based upon the transformed distribution and the model function. A location of the discontinuity based upon the residue distribution is identified, and another peak value from the residue distribution is selected. Additional systems and methods are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9071678
Abstract: A method of diagnosing a transmission loop in an Internet protocol television (IPTV) network includes configuring the loop as an open loop and performing a single-ended loop test (SELT), configuring the loop as a terminated-loop and performing another SELT, subtracting a trace of the first SELT from a trace of the second SELT, and determining the length of the loop from the result. A service assurance system in an IPTV network includes a test module and a DSLAM coupled to a residential gateway by a transmission loop. The test module operates to determine that a fault condition on the IPTV network is caused by a fault in the loop, direct the DSLAM to perform an open loop SELT and a terminated-loop SELT on the loop, receive the results of the SELTs, and determine a location of a tap on the loop based upon the results.

  • Patent number: 8839325
Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method of managing video content quality. The method includes receiving performance data at a video quality prediction system where the performance data is related to a plurality of network elements of a network path linking a video-head end with a set-top box device. The method also includes predicting, based at least partially on the performance data, a quality of video content received at the set-top box device and determining whether the predicted quality of video content is greater than or equal to a video quality threshold. In addition, the method includes identifying at least one of the plurality of network elements not satisfying a performance requirement, based on the performance data, when the predicted quality of video content is less than the video quality threshold. Further, the method includes outputting data indicating the at least one network element not satisfying the performance requirement.

  • Publication number: 20080198754
Abstract: A multicast test of an Internet Protocol (IP) network is performed with an initial multicast probing frequency. The multicast probing frequency of the multicast test is increased, and an impairment of the IP network based on the multicast test is detected based on the multicast test. Based on detecting the impairment, a unicast test is performed at one or more segments of the IP network. Based on the unicast test, an impaired segment of the IP network is identified.
