  • Patent number: 10897317
Abstract: According to methods of performing measurements to determine a distance to a passive-intermodulation (“PIM”) source, a first RF signal comprising a first frequency and a second RF signal comprising a second frequency may be applied to a device under test. A reference signal comprising a higher-order intermodulation-product of the first frequency and the second frequency may also be generated. An output signal from the device under test and the reference signal may be digitized and a calibration measurement may be applied. A phase difference between the device under test output and the reference signal may be determined. A plurality of phase differences may be determined for multiple first frequencies, and from the plurality of phase differences, a delay may be calculated, which may be multiplied by the velocity of propagation on the medium connecting the device under test to the test equipment to determine a distance to the PIM source.

  • Patent number: 10090938
Abstract: For wireless cellular communications, a “smart” multi-band combiner system has a multi-band combiner and a passive inter-modulation (PIM) detection sub-system. The multi-band combiner combines multiple transmit signals in different downlink frequency bands into a single, multi-band transmit signal for transmission from a cell tower antenna. The PIM detection sub-system characterizes the frequency components in the multi-band transmit signal to predict PIM products and determine if any predicted PIM products might interfere with any receive signals in any uplink frequency bands. If so, the PIM detection sub-system generates a signal indicating the presence of such predicted interfering PIM products, and the system installer and/or the network administrator can take remedial action to prevent the PIM products from interfering with user communications.

  • Patent number: 10009121
Abstract: According to methods of performing a passive inter-modulation distortion (“PID”) test, a first excitation signal and a second excitation signal are applied to a device under test, where at least one of the first and second excitation signals is a spread spectrum excitation signal. An output signal is received that includes a PID signal generated from mixing of the first and second excitation signals. At least a portion of the output signal is de-spread. A characteristic of the PID signal may then be measured.

  • Patent number: 8438426
Abstract: A method for diagnosing a control system for a stacked battery. The control system comprises a plurality of processors, a plurality of controllers, and a monitoring unit (control unit). The method comprises sending a diagnostic information from the central unit to a top processor of the plurality of processors, transmitting a return information from the top processor of the plurality of processors to the central unit, comparing the diagnostic information sent from the central unit with the return information received by the central unit, and indicating a communication problem if the diagnostic information sent from the central unit is different from the return information received by the central unit. The steps are repeated by eliminating the top processor from a previous cycle and assigning a new top processor if there is no problem with the reconfigurable communication system.
