  • Patent number: 9894689
Abstract: Example systems, methods, and logic are provided herein for detecting a numerical identifier of an endpoint. In one example, a connectivity manager establishes a wireless communication session with a fixed endpoint using a wireless communication protocol. The connectivity manager module then generates a Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) request to download a phone number associated with the fixed endpoint. The connectivity manager module receives, via the wireless communication session, a PBAP response comprising a phone number identifying the fixed endpoint and inputs the phone number identifying the fixed endpoint into a field used for initiating a call to the fixed endpoint.

  • Patent number: 9845513
Abstract: This invention relates to the production of chemicals by fermentation with a microorganism in which the fermentation medium contains the sugar sucrose. As a specific example, succinic acid is produced from a sucrose-containing renewable feedstock through fermentation using a biocatalyst. Examples of such a biocatalyst include microorganisms that have been enhanced in their ability to utilize sucrose as a carbon and energy source. The biocatalysts of the present invention are derived from the genetic manipulation of parental strains that were originally constructed with the goal to produce one or more chemicals (for example succinic acid and/or a salt of succinic acid) at a commercial scale using feedstocks other than sucrose. The genetic manipulations of the present invention involve the introduction of exogenous genes involved in the transport and metabolism of sucrose into the parental strains.

  • Publication number: 20160319309
Abstract: This invention relates to improvements in the fermentation process used in the production of organic acids from biological feedstock using bacterial catalysts. The improvements in the fermentation process involve providing a fermentation medium comprising an appropriate form of inorganic carbon, an appropriate amount of aeration and a biocatalyst with an enhanced ability to uptake and assimilate the inorganic carbon into the organic acids. This invention also provides, as a part of an integrated fermentation facility, a novel process for producing a solid source of inorganic carbon by sequestering carbon released from the fermentation in an alkali solution.

  • Publication number: 20160160245
Abstract: This invention relates to the production of succinic acid and other chemicals derived from phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) by fermentation with a microorganism in which the fermentation medium contains one or more sugars, and in which one or more of the sugars is imported into the cell by facilitated diffusion. As a specific example, succinic acid is produced from a glucose-containing renewable feedstock through fermentation using a biocatalyst. Examples of such a biocatalyst include microorganisms that have been enhanced in their ability to utilize glucose as a carbon and energy source. The biocatalysts of the present invention are derived from the genetic manipulation of parental strains that were originally constructed with the goal to produce one or more chemicals (for example succinic acid and/or a salt of succinic acid) at a commercial scale using feedstocks that include, for example, glucose, fructose, or sucrose.

  • Publication number: 20140306694
Abstract: A method for determining direction of travel of a tag is described. The method includes a tag that receives sample signals from two spatially separate LF magnetic fields generated by an exciter. The received signal strength indicator (RSSI) data associated with each of the sample signals is determined. A first RSSI profile is created for the first LF magnetic fields. A second RSSI profile is created for the second LF magnetic fields. The first and second RSSI profiles are compared to determine a direction of travel of the object. A tag, an exciter and a computer readable medium are configured to facilitate the method.

  • Patent number: 8572067
Abstract: A method to estimate the number of distinct value combinations for a set of attributes in a database system is disclosed. The method comprises utilizing frequency information within the set of attributes to provide a best estimate for the number of distinct value combinations. In a preferred embodiment, the utilizing step comprises estimating the number of distinct value combinations utilizing frequency information of the set of attributes based upon probability theory and further includes providing bounds on the distinct value information combinations utilizing the frequency information of the set of attributes. In so doing, an estimate for the number of distinct value combinations is provided.

  • Patent number: 7593931
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for performing fast approximate computation of statistics on query expressions in order to improve query optimization within a database management system by accurately and quickly estimating the sizes of intermediate query results. This is accomplished by analyzing a query for join instruction and identifying a fact table and a dimension table within those join instructions. Then, frequency statistics corresponding to distinct values of within the fact table are retrieved from a catalog table. Those frequency statistics are used in combination with a full scan of the dimension table accurately and quickly estimate frequency statistics for an expected join between the fact table and dimension table. The estimated frequency statistics corresponding to the expected join may then be used in such operations as query optimization.

  • Publication number: 20080086444
Abstract: A system and method for improving cardinality estimation in a relational database management system is provided. The method is suitable for use with a query optimizer for improved estimation of various predicates in the query optimizer's cost estimation plan by combining pre-computed statistics and information from sampled data. The system and method include sampling a relational database for generating a sample data set and estimating cardinalities of the sample data set. The estimated cardinalities sample data sets are reduced in accordance with the present invention by determining a first and second weight set, and minimizing a distance between the first and second weight set.
