Abstract: A container including a neck and an opening, in combination with a tamper-evidencing closure including a top, a depending annular skirt and a tamper-evidencing band frangibly connected to the annular skirt. The container includes a locking surface on the neck spaced from the opening. The tamper-evidencing band includes an inwardly turned retaining rim that extends at least partially upwardly. The retaining rim has a free edge for engagement with the locking surface as the closure is removed from the neck. The retaining rim includes a locking surface engaging structure, most preferably provided by a plurality of outwardly directed flutes spaced circumferentially thereon and a second securing structure located on the retaining rim between the flutes. Drain passageways are provided in the rim to enable draining and/or evaporation of trapped liquid.

Abstract: Bottle necks for screw-off caps are provided with external threads to mesh with internal cap threads and external ratchet teeth to engage internal cap ratchet teeth. When the neck is formed of a rigid material (e.g., PET), the sharp corners of the intersecting flanks of the teeth are hazardous. To reduce the chance of injury, in accordance with this invention the corners are rounded off in a radius having its center offset from the intersection of the working flank of the tooth and the minor ratchet diameter without detrimentally reducing the length of the working flanks. Ratchet teeth are usually located in one of two diametrically disposed quadrants. The first or transition tooth of each quadrant has a greater radius than that of subsequent teeth and its center is inset toward the neck axis.

Abstract: An articulated hinged closure includes a lid adapted to be attached to a wide-mouthed container. The lid has a pouring aperture and a peripheral rim surrounding the aperture, which is initially plugged by a sealing member having upper and lower leaves interconnected by an integral articulated connector. The connector is a link having opposed upper and lower ends, and a flexible hinge at either end, the upper of said hinges connecting the link to the upper leaf, and the lower of said hinges connecting the link to the lower leaf. Each of said hinges is designed so that a respective end of the link binds against adjacent structure in such a-way that, as the lid is opened, the upper hinge eventually binds against the upper leaf, causing the lower hinge to pivot and bind againstr the lid and until it pries the plug out of the aperture.

Abstract: A plastic closure includes an annular ring durably attached to the container, and a sealing assembly installed in the ring to seal the mouth. The sealing assembly includes a plug having a sealing lip on its lower face and a release lever connected to the plug by a flexible linkage. The tab on the release lever can be lifted to pry the sealing assembly out of the opening. The lever comprises more than one hook protruding downwardly, connected to the outer edge of the lever by frangible bridges or by a frangible line. The hook is engageable with retaining elements attached to the attachment ring or to the container. The frangible bridges or the frangible line are constructed to break during first opening of the closure, to provide an indication that tampering has occurred.
