  • Patent number: 6726756
Abstract: The present invention provides an ink jet ink composition suitable for use in continuous ink jet printing comprising a liquid vehicle, a binder resin, a colorant, and optionally a surfactant. The liquid vehicle includes an organic solvent or blend of solvents having an evaporation rate less than about 1.2, relative to n-butyl acetate standard which has an evaporation rate of 1.0. The present invention further provides a method for eliminating or reducing make-up consumption in continuous ink jet printing. The present invention further provides a process of continuous ink jet printing which is free or substantially free of make-up consumption.

  • Patent number: 6444019
Abstract: The present invention provides a jet ink composition comprising a volatile organic solvent, an oil, one or more binder resins which are soluble in the volatile organic solvent, and a colorant. The ink composition is fast drying and provides excellent adhesion to non-porous substrates. Printers, such as drop-on-demand ink jet printers, employing the ink composition can operate without nozzle clogging even after long non-printing intervals. The present invention further provides a method for reducing clogging of a nozzle orifice in an ink jet printer comprising printing with an ink composition that includes an oil that forms a continuous oil phase which acts as the boundary layer between the air outside the nozzle orifice and the ink inside the nozzle during non-printing intervals.

  • Patent number: 5981625
Abstract: The present invention provides a newspaper printing ink that has rub off resistance; is fast drying on the paper; does not mist or dry on the press; offers excellent printability, high color strength, good water balance, and sharp half tone reproduction; and is relatively inexpensive. The present invention provides an ink concentrate suitable for preparing the printing ink, the ink concentrate comprising a colorant having a particle size of from about 0.01 .mu.m to about 25 .mu.m, a hydrocarbon resin, and a binder resin selected from the group consisting of a polyamide-oil polymer and a polyester-oil polymer. The present invention further provides a printing ink comprising a colorant having a particle size of from about 0.01 .mu.m to about 25 .mu.m, a vegetable oil, a polyamide-oil polymer, and a styrene-acrylic copolymer. The present invention further provides a printing ink comprising a naphthenic oil, a colorant having a particle size of from about 0.01 .mu.m to about 25 .mu.
