    Abstract: A device for damping vibrations between a pair of sub-structural components of a carbody in a locomotive is disclosed. The sub-structural components are supported on a single undercarriage frame. The device includes a first support bracket affixed to a first sub-structural component, and a second support bracket that is interleaved with the first support bracket and affixed to a second sub-structural component. The device further includes a first stiffening element and a second stiffening element that are disposed on the first support bracket and in opposing relation to each other. The device further includes a reciprocating member that is rigidly connected to the second support bracket. The reciprocating member is movable between the first stiffening element and the second stiffening element to abut against one of the first stiffening element and the second stiffening element in response to a relative movement between the pair of sub-structural components of the carbody.

    Abstract: A tire direct-pressure shaping and electromagnetic induction heating curing method and apparatus uses an inner metal mold including large and small segments, a telescoping mechanism, supporting plates attached to the segments, and induction heating coils. A cavity in the middle of the segments is filled of phase change material. The temperature of the mold rises rapidly by the thermal effect of an eddy current generated on the surface of the segments to heat the green tire. When the middle part of the segment is heated to a certain temperature, the phase change material absorbs and stores the excess heat. Therefore, the temperature of the middle part of the segment differs from one of two ends of the segment. Once the tire is cured, the inner mold in the expanded condition and the outer mold support very high pressure for the green tire together.

    Abstract: The use of tPA to treat hemorrhagic transformation, neurotoxicity has been limited to short treatment time windows because a high dose of tPA required to generate sufficient amounts of the enzyme plasmin for clot lysis. The present invention combines tPA with recombinant Annexin A2 resulting in thrombolysis without hemorrhagic transformation at delayed times after stroke. This embodiment allows the administration of a lower, non-neurotoxic, tPA dose. Our results suggest this novel combination for stroke therapy may greatly improve both efficacy and safety, and prolong tPA therapeutic time window.

    Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system for improved high-performance parallel data sorting is provided. In a first phase, a plurality of unordered data elements to be sorted is divided into K unordered lists each preferably having approximately M elements. Each of these K unordered lists can be independently sorted in parallel using any algorithm, such as quicksort, to generate K ordered lists. In a second phase, N balanced workloads are determined from the K ordered lists by using an iterative converging process capped by a maximum number of iterations. Thus, any non-uniform or skewed data distribution can be load balanced with minimal processing time. Once the N balanced workloads are determined, they can be independently sorted in parallel, for example by using a merge sort, and then combined with a fast concatenation to provide the final sorted result. Thus, sorting operations are fully parallelized while avoiding any expensive data scanning steps.

    Abstract: Accurate and fast mapping of sequencing reads obtained from a targeted sequencing procedure can be provided. Once a target region is selected, alternate regions of the genome that are sufficiently similar to the target region can be identified. If a sequencing read is more similar to the target region than to an alternate region, then the read can be determined as aligning to the target region. The reads aligning to the target region can then be analyzed to determine whether a mutation exists in the target region. Accordingly, a sequencing read can be compared to the target region and the corresponding alternate regions, and not to the entire genome, thereby providing computational efficiency.
