    Abstract: A water-jet guided laser machining device and method under multiple combinations of water and air is provided. An auxiliary atmosphere input line is arranged between a laser-water coupling device and an annular water-jet device. An auxiliary atmosphere input through the auxiliary atmosphere input line is sprayed from an annular gas nozzle to form an auxiliary airflow layer. A nozzle is arranged at a lower end of the laser-water coupling device. An annular liquid nozzle is arranged at a bottom of the annular water-jet device. The laser-water coupling device is configured for coupling a laser beam with an internal liquid to spray a single water jet from the nozzle. The annular water-jet device is configured for spraying the internal liquid from the annular liquid nozzle to form an annular water curtain around a laser guiding water jet. The auxiliary airflow layer is enclosed in the annular water curtain.

    Abstract: A wearable mechano-acoustic sensor for continuous cardiorespiratory monitoring, and methods of making and using the same. The sensor includes a diaphragm with a chamber and a channel connected to the chamber, a plurality of electrodes including at least an anode and a cathode extending into the channel, and a liquid electrolyte solution that fills the chamber and channel. When the diaphragm is attached to a user's chest, mechano-acoustic movement from the chest cause the diaphragm to move, pushing the electrolyte solution across the electrodes. A voltage is applied to the anode and an electrochemical current is determined by the flux from the anode to the cathode by the modulation of the electrolyte solution across the electrodes and cardiorespiratory signals are measured from the electrochemical currents.

    Abstract: An adhesive material that provides fast and robust adhesion on wet surfaces, where the adhesion formed is detachable on-demand. The adhesive material is formed of one or more hydrophilic polymers or copolymers grafted with one or more amine coupling groups via a plurality of cleavable physical bonds and/or cleavable covalent bonds and one or more cross linkers. Application of the adhesive material on a wet surface causes the adhesive material to absorb liquid to thereby swell the adhesive material to form a layer of hydrogel, resulting in the formation of temporary crosslinks followed by covalent crosslinks with the surface. Introducing a triggering agent cleaves the cleavable physical bonds and/or cleavable covalent bonds to allow for non-traumatic detachment of the adhesive material from the surface.
