Patent number: 7637510Abstract: A chuck is provided for use with a manual or powered driver. The chuck has a body with angularly disposed passageways. A plurality of jaws is slidably positioned within the angularly disposed passageways. A nut is rotatably mounted about the body member and has threads defined on an inner circumference that engage jaw threads. A sleeve is in driving rotational engagement with the nut so that when the sleeve is rotated with respect to the body, the jaws are moved within the passageways. A stopping mechanism that rotates with the sleeve is provided with at least one elastic stop pawl. When the stopping mechanism rotates in a first direction that causes the gripping jaws to move to the rear of the body to a predetermined position, the stop pawl blocks the lateral surface of the gripping jaws and prevents further rotational movement of the nut.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2006Date of Patent: December 29, 2009Assignee: Shandong Weida Machinery Company LimitedInventor: Xingda Tan

Patent number: 7128324Abstract: A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver that may also be used for hammer drilling. The chuck is constructed so that during normal operation for its intended purpose, the jaws holding a shaft for a tool do not loosen. The chuck includes at least one pawl to engage teeth on a gear ring such that rotation of a ring driver in a jaw gripping direction causes the gear ring to rotate. When the jaws tightly grip the shaft, the gear ring will frictionally engage a portion of the chuck so that the gear ring is rotationally locked to the chuck body. At the same time, the pawl engages the gear ring such that rotation of the ring driver and thus movement of the jaws in a non-jaw gripping direction is prevented during normal use of the hammerlock chuck.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2005Date of Patent: October 31, 2006Assignee: Shandong Weida Machinery Co., Ltd.Inventors: Guimo Yang, Xingda Tan
