  • Publication number: 20240103285
Abstract: A head-mountable device including a frame, a display positioned in the frame, a processor, and a facial interface connected to the frame. The facial interface can include a sensor electrically coupled to the processor. The sensor can collect biometric information from a nasal region of a user and generate a signal based on the biometric information.

  • Publication number: 20230099638
Abstract: Robust estimation of temperatures inside and outside a device can be achieved using one or more absolute temperature sensors optionally in conjunction with thermopile heat flux sensors. Thermopile temperature sensing systems can measure a temperature gradient across two locations within the device, to estimate absolute temperature at locations that are impractical to measure using absolute temperature sensors. Using heat flux models associated with the device, the thermopile temperature sensing system can be used to estimate temperature associated with objects that contact an outer surface of the device, such as a user's skin temperature. Additionally, the thermopile temperature sensing system can be used to estimate ambient air temperature. Within a device, temperature measurements from the thermopile temperature sensors can be used to compensate sensor measurements, such as when the accuracy or reliability of a sensor varies with temperature.

  • Publication number: 20230085860
Abstract: One embodiment described herein takes the form of a wearable electronic device, such as a watch, including a housing, a memory and a processor located in the housing, and three or more sensors. Each sensor of the three or more sensors is configured to generate a measurement of a parameter. Each sensor of the three or more sensors is located in a different region in the housing. The processor is configured to execute instructions stored in the memory. In response to execution of the instructions by the processor, the processor is configured to generate an adjusted measurement of the biometric parameter using at least the measurements of the parameter generated by the three or more sensors. The parameter is a temperature, and the biometric parameter is a body temperature of a user.

  • Publication number: 20230093738
Abstract: Disclosed herein are electronic devices, including wearable electronic devices, and components and configurations thereof, having one or more temperature sensors separated from the point of contact of the electronic device and an object, such as a user, whose temperature is being measured. In some embodiments, the electronic device includes both a temperature sensor and a light (visible, UV, and/or IR) emitter and sensor. Various embodiments are disclosed by which a temperature sensor may be shielded or separated from a light emitter/detector. A spacer may be used to separate the temperature sensor from the device's housing that contacts the object. The spacer may include a thermal path from the housing to the temperature sensor, and may be opaque to the light detected by a light detector.

  • Patent number: 11221513
Abstract: An electronic device includes display layers such as liquid crystal display layers and a backlight unit that provides illumination for the display layers. The backlight unit includes light-emitting diodes that emit light into the edge of a light guide film. To minimize the inactive area of the display, the light-emitting diodes are tightly spaced to approximate a line light source instead of point light sources. Color and/or luminance compensation layers are incorporated at various locations within the backlight structures to ensure that the backlight provided to the display layers is homogenous. A thin-film transistor layer of the display is coupled to a printed circuit board by a flexible printed circuit. The flexible printed circuit has additional solder mask layers to improve robustness, encapsulation, and traces with a varying pitch.

  • Patent number: 9954136
Abstract: An apparatus for carrying a plurality of photovoltaic structures is provided. The apparatus can include a pair of end plates, a set of stationary posts coupling together the end plates, and a wafer-locking mechanism that can be engaged when the apparatus changes orientation. At least one stationary post can be shaped like a comb and have a first array of comb teeth for separating the photovoltaic structures. The wafer-locking mechanism can be configured to lock the photovoltaic structures in position, thereby preventing motion-induced damage to the photovoltaic structures.
