  • Patent number: 10611061
Abstract: The present subject matter is directed to methods for manufacturing rotor blades and/or components thereof of a wind turbine. In one embodiment, the method includes forming the rotor blade component and covering at least a portion of the rotor blade component with at least one coating material. In addition, the coating material includes at least one additive having a changeable pigment. After the component is formed, the method includes inspecting the rotor blade component for defects. After inspection, the method further includes activating the additive to change the pigment from a transparent finish to a colored finish.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 7, 2020
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Stephen Bertram Johnson, Xiomara Irizarry-Rosado, Arunkumar Natarajan
  • Patent number: 10495058
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a rotor blade assembly for a wind turbine having a joint assembly securing first and second blade segments together. For example, the joint assembly releasably couples the first and second blade segments together at a chord-wise extending joint and includes at least one set of interlocking components. As such, the joint assembly is movable between a locked position and an unlocked position by engaging and disengaging the interlocking components. Thus, in the locked position, the first and second blade segments are secured together via the interlocking components, and movement from the locked position to the unlocked position, releases the interlocking components, thereby releasing the first and second blade segments from each other.

Date of Patent: December 3, 2019
    Assignee: General Electric Company

  • Publication number: 20130064677
Abstract: A rotor blade assembly for a wind turbine is disclosed. The rotor blade assembly includes a rotor blade having surfaces defining a pressure side, a suction side, a leading edge, and a trailing edge extending between a tip and a root. The surfaces further define an interior, and the rotor blade further defines a span and a chord. The rotor blade assembly further includes a strut disposed in the interior and extending between the pressure side and the suction side. A length of the strut extends in a generally spanwise direction, and a width of the strut extends diagonally to the chord.

  • Publication number: 20120027615
Abstract: A rotor blade for a wind turbine is disclosed. The rotor blade includes an outer shell having exterior surfaces and interior surfaces, the exterior surfaces defining a pressure side and a suction side each extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge, the interior surfaces defining a rotor blade interior. The rotor blade further includes a structural member extending through at least a portion of the interior, and a generally elastic material connecting the structural member to an interior surface. The generally elastic material allows movement of the outer shell with respect to the structural member.
