  • Publication number: 20120077758
Abstract: The present application provides diagnostic methods for determining the fertility status of a male individual by evaluating his DEFB-126 phenotypic and genotypic status. The present invention relates to a dinucleotide deletion polymorphism in the protein coding sequence of a DEFB-126 nucleic acid. The amino acid sequence of this variant has a significantly altered the carboxyl terminal, carbohydrate-containing domain of DEFB-126 in comparison to a wild-type DEFB-126 polypeptide. This variant results in aberrant protein function and structure, leading to reduced sperm function and fertility. The present invention provides methods for analyzing the genotype of individuals with respect to the gene encoding DEFB-126 in order to determine whether that individual has reduced fertility. Such determination will provide an individual knowledge of whether their genotype is associated with a risk of reduced fertility and to allow that individual to receive appropriate fertility treatment options.

  • Publication number: 20100048644
Abstract: Use of composition comprising amlodipine in preparing medicaments for treating a lower urinary tract disorder. The lower urinary tract disorder is selected from the group consisting of benign prostate hyperplasia, lower urinary tract syndrome or overactive bladder, especially the lower urinary tract disorder accompanying with hypertension. Amlodipine is any one selected from the group consisting of amlodipine, amlodipine active metabolite, levoamlodipine, pharmaceutically acceptable precursor of amlodipine, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts of amlodipine, amlodipine active metabolite, levoamlodipine, or pharmaceutically acceptable precursor of amlodipine. The pharmaceutical dose of amlodipine is in the range of 1-10 mg. The invention belongs to the field of pharmacy.

  • Publication number: 20070134709
Abstract: This invention features our discovery on usages of Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) gene polymorphisms in predicting homocysteine (Hcy) level and/or incidence and prognosis of diseases associated with increased Hcy level in a subject, as well as predicting treatment effects of medicines in the category of Angiotension Converting Enzyme Inhibihor (ACEI) with and without combination with B Vitamins. This invention also features our discovery on laboratory and analytical methods that are essential to the above described usages of MTHFR gene polymorphisms. In addition, this invention features a kit that has translated the above discoveries into a practical and reliable tool that can be applied to accomplish the above described usages of MTHFR gene polymorphisms. This invention represents an important step in realizing personalized medicine, with the goal to tailor diagnosis, prevention and treatment strategy to meet individual needs.
