Patent number: 10791192Abstract: There are provided a transparent performance enhancing proxy, a method for operating a transparent performance enhancing proxy between a source device and a destination device, and corresponding computer program product. The method includes preserving, without translation, packet header information of a header for a packet received from the source device to be forwarded to the destination device. The method further includes during a transmission control protocol connection setup phase for the packet, preserving transmission control protocol connection semantics. The method also includes during a transmission control protocol data transfer phase for the packet, running a transmission control protocol by masquerading as the source device to the destination device and masquerading as the destination device to the source device to transmit the packet to the destination device with the preserved packet header information.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2019Date of Patent: September 29, 2020Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Vivek Kashyap, Michael J. Kravetz, Xiuling Ma, Erich M. Nahum

Patent number: 8006006Abstract: Systems and methods for aggregating transmit completion interrupts for multiple packets are provided. A network device can include a buffer with multiple memory locations capable of temporarily storing a packet being transmitted across the network via the network device and nodes connected to the network device. The network device can include a high watermark for determining when to process transmit completion interrupts. If the number of packets stored in the memory exceeds the high watermark, an aggregated transmit completion interrupt for all of the packets can be processed. Otherwise, the network device waits until sufficient packets are received to reach the high watermark.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2008Date of Patent: August 23, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Xiuling Ma

Patent number: 7752370Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for reducing latency associated with processing events of a hardware interrupt. Send and receive events share the same hardware interrupt. A receive handler and a separate send handler are provided to simultaneously process completion of a send event and a receive event. In addition, separate queues are provided to communicate receipt of an event to the respective interrupt handler.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2007Date of Patent: July 6, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Xiuling Ma
