    Abstract: A method is provided for determining a mud weight window for an oil and gas well. One implementation of the method includes creating a 3D finite element model for at least a portion of the field in which the well is located. Next, at least three components of stress are determined using the 3D finite element model. The values of at least three of the stress components from the 3D finite element model may then be extracted and integrated with a ID analytical model for the well to determine the mud weight window for the well.
