Efficient and soluble expression is achieved using a genetic engineering method to obtain a rhFGF21-(VPGXG)n fusion protein, wherein by means of fusion of rhFGF21 and an elastin-like protein (VPGXG)n having an appropriate cycle number n, the resulting fusion protein has better biological activity than wild-type rhFGF21. Moreover, experimental results indicate that the rhFGF21-(VPGXG)n fusion protein has high expression efficiency, and can effectively reduce the blood sugar level in the body of a diabetic animal. In addition, compared with wild-type hFGF21, the fusion protein also has the advantage of a long efficacy duration in reducing the blood sugar level.
