  • Publication number: 20090003307
Abstract: Embodiments of a multi-radio wireless communication device and methods for synchronizing wireless network and Bluetooth (BT) communications are generally described herein. Other embodiments may be described and claimed. In some embodiments, a BT radio module adjusts a master clock signal by a predetermined step size before each subsequent BT transmission in response to a frame sync pulse from a wireless network radio module to reduce a time difference between subsequent frame sync pulses and synchronization reference points of BT slots.

  • Publication number: 20090003293
Abstract: In general, in one aspect, the disclosure describes an apparatus that includes a first radio to communicate with a first wireless network and a second radio to communicate with a second wireless network. The first wireless network transmits a map defining locations within an assigned spectrum data is to be communicated therebetween. An earliest possible location defined in map is such that the map can be parsed within the time it would take to get to the earliest possible location so that the radio can be turned off after receiving the map until the location defined in the map, and the second radio is active when the first radio is not.

  • Publication number: 20080247367
Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods for Bluetooth and WiMAX coexistence are generally described herein. Other embodiments may be described and claimed. In some embodiments systems and methods are described to determine a temporal reference associated a frame, and then align another wireless frame with that temporal reference. Once aligned, transmissions and receptions in one wireless frame may be arranged to not temporally overlap with transmissions or reception the other wireless frame.

  • Publication number: 20080247445
Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods for the coexistence of wireless radios having differing protocols are generally described herein. Other embodiments may be described and claimed. In some embodiments systems and methods for synchronizing clocks between two radios, and using a signal to notify one of the radios to refrain from transmitting for a timeperiod are described.

  • Publication number: 20080242329
Abstract: Methods and arrangements for link rate adaptation in multi-radio co-existence platforms (MRPs) are contemplated. Embodiments include transformations, code, state machines or other logic to determine an overlap between receiving by a wireless device of the MRP and transmitting by other of the wireless devices of the MRP and to select a link rate of the wireless device of the MRP based upon the determining an overlap. The embodiments may also include communicating the determined link rate to a wireless device transmitting to the wireless device of the MRP. Embodiments may also include selecting a previously used link rate if the receiving overlaps the transmitting. Embodiments may also include basing the link rate upon an overlapping or non-overlapping Signal-to-Interference-Plus-Noise-Ratio depending on the relative amounts of overlapping and non-overlapping.

  • Publication number: 20080232339
Abstract: A first radio in a wireless network may request a transmit opportunity (TXOP) of a certain duration, with the duration being based a likelihood that a TXOP of that duration would cause interference with a co-located second radio. The duration may be dynamically adjusted based on the likelihood of such interference.

  • Publication number: 20080227488
Abstract: Transmission opportunity (TXOP) duration is adapted for a wireless local area network (WLAN) transceiver in a dual radio wireless device based on an end of free time indication associated with a wireless wide area network (WWAN) transceiver within the same device. In this manner, the occurrence of collisions between WLAN communication activity and WLAN communication activity within the dual radio device may be reduced or eliminated.

  • Publication number: 20080139200
Abstract: In a wireless device that includes two different radio transceivers that communicate in two different wireless networks, wireless transmissions from one radio in the first network may be timed so that they do not coincide with wireless receptions by the other radio in the second network. A non-wireless interface between the two radios may be used to convey information about the scheduled reception times so that the transmission will not be scheduled during those reception times. This may be particularly useful when the receiving radio is operating in a centralized and highly scheduled network, while the transmitting radio is operating in a more decentralized network.

  • Publication number: 20070214247
Abstract: Spatial backoff methods allow source stations to search for appropriate carrier sense threshold and transmission rate operating points to improve network aggregate throughput. In one method, each source station performs a search process to find the best carrier sense threshold and transmission rate, based on a defined utility function. In a second method, each source station dynamically adjusts its carrier sense threshold and transmission rate upon successful transmissions or failures, based on some heuristic measures. Spatial backoff methods may lead to gains in performance.

  • Patent number: 7255461
Abstract: A lamp comprising a light source (18) and a reflector (26), wherein the reflector is of non-circular cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the lamp and comprises several panels (20). Each panel has an undulating surface (22) that diffuses the light and so provides a relatively uniform level of illumination. The reflector panels may be concave and preferably form a hexagonal or square section reflector that is closed by a transparent cover (24). The lamp is provided for use as a recessed ceiling light and is secured by a circlip (44) and a sprung bracket mount (30). Also disclosed is a lamp with a non-circular section reflector formed from concave reflector panels.

  • Patent number: 6985089
Abstract: A method is provided for vehicle to vehicle communication among vehicles having wireless communication links. Upon receiving notification of a sudden change in vehicle behavior, a vehicle broadcasts a priority message to surrounding vehicles within a transmission range. If an emergency event has occurred, a repeat cycle is defined for re-broadcasting the message, and a maximum number of initial repetitions for the message is specified. The message is transmitted repeatedly by a leader vehicle, with a pause between each transmission, until the maximum number of repetitions has been reached.
