Abstract: A hinge mechanism and a foldable electronic device are provided. The hinge mechanism is disposed in a foldable electronic device. When one rotation portion of the foldable electronic device moves, the hinge mechanism drives the other rotation portion to move. The hinge mechanism includes a fastening support, a transmission assembly, two first transmission shafts, a clamping assembly, and a first elastic portion. The fastening support is configured to be fastened to a base of the foldable electronic device, and the fastening support is coupled to the first transmission shaft to limit relative positions of the first transmission shaft and the fastening support. The first transmission shaft is coupled to the clamping assembly and the first elastic portion. The first elastic portion provides an elastic force for the clamping assembly such that friction between the clamping assembly and the transmission assembly generates damping.

Abstract: This application provides a hinge mechanism and an electronic device. One example hinge mechanism includes a base, and a first rotating assembly and a second rotating assembly that are respectively disposed on two sides of the base. When the first rotating assembly and the second rotating assembly rotate toward each other, a length of the hinge mechanism may be increased; or when the first rotating assembly and the second rotating assembly rotate opposite to each other, a length of the hinge mechanism may be shortened, and a support surface for supporting a flexible display can be formed.

The damping assembly includes an elastic module and an even number of friction assemblies. Each friction assembly includes an intermediate shaft and a gear member. The intermediate shaft includes a shaft body and a mounting part. The shaft body is connected to the base. The mounting part is disposed on the shaft body. The mounting part has a tapered groove. The gear member includes an insertion part. The insertion part has a tapered face, and the insertion part is inserted into the tapered groove. The tapered face abuts against a groove face of the tapered groove under an action of elastic force of the elastic module. A first swing arm of the first rotation assembly and a second swing arm of the second rotation group rotate around the base.
