  • Patent number: 10213347
Abstract: An absorbent article (100-1200) is capable of providing comfort to the wearer and can maintain dryness and inhibit the leakage of fluid. The absorbent article (100-1200) includes a multi-layered topsheet (138). The multi-layered topsheet (138) includes a first topsheet layer (106) having an opening (148) and a second topsheet layer (108) disposed under the first topsheet layer (106). The first topsheet layer (106) and the second topsheet layer (108) are joined together by a seal that, in one embodiment, generally corresponds with the shape of the opening (148). Further, a first sub-topsheet layer (116) is situated beneath the multi-layered topsheet (138) and has an opening (150) that is smaller than the first topsheet layer opening (148). This combination of openings (148, 150) situated one below the other provides for an absorbent article (100-1200) that can maintain a high level of dryness and its ability to conform to the wearer's body, and inhibit the leakage of bodily fluids due to a funnel-like effect.

  • Publication number: 20180177643
Abstract: A laminate with a fibrous nonwoven web first layer (20) bonded to a second layer (40) by way of a plurality of first layer embossments is disclosed. The first layer (20) further includes a plurality of apertures and an air gap between the first layer (20) and second layer (40). The laminate is well-suited for a wide variety of uses and in particular as a top sheet or liner material for absorbent articles such as, for example, diapers, training pants, feminine hygiene products, incontinence devices and wipes. Also disclosed is a process for forming such a laminate.

  • Publication number: 20180133071
Abstract: An absorbent article (10;100;200) includes a topsheet layer (16,17), a backsheet layer (18) and a subjacent layer (20, 20A-20D) between the topsheet layer (16,17) and the backsheet layer (18). A compressible fluid management layer (22;110;210) is positioned between the topsheet layer (16,17) and the subjacent layer (20, 20A-20D). The compressible fluid management layer (22;110;210) has an inner edge (22A) that defines an annular opening (28), with the annular opening (28) extending entirely through the compressible fluid management layer (22;110;210). The compressible fluid management layer (22;110;210) includes a first embossed feature (24) positioned at least at portions, within the annular opening (28), and adjacent to the inner edge (22A) of compressible fluid management layer (22;110;210), shaped to conform the shape of the inner edge (22A). A first embossed feature (24) is positioned within the topsheet layer (16,17) and the subjacent layer (20, 20A-20D).

  • Patent number: 9968494
Abstract: An absorbent article (20;620;720;820;920;1020) capable of inhibiting leakage of a fluid insult generally extends in a plane defined by a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction. The absorbent article (20;620;720;820;920;1020) contains fluid-shrinkable members (60,61), a topsheet (11;611;711;811), and a base pad (12;812) that includes a baffle (28;828) and an absorbent core (30) positioned between the topsheet (11;611;711;811) and the baffle (28;828). The topsheet (11;611;711;811) extends in the longitudinal direction to define a distal end (153) and an opposing proximal end (152). At least a portion of the proximal end (152) remains generally unbonded to the baffle (28;828). The fluid-shrinkable members (60,61) extend in the longitudinal direction of the absorbent article (20;620;720;820;920;1020) so that at least a portion of the fluid-shrinkable members (60,61) are located adjacent to the proximal end (152) of the topsheet (11;611;711;811).

  • Publication number: 20120315454
Abstract: A thermoplastic film composition that includes a polymer blend of multiple inherently incompatible polymer components is described. The composition includes a polymer blend having about 5 wt. % to about 45 wt. % of a plasticized natural polymer, about 5 wt. % to about 40 wt % of a polyolefin, a biodegradable polymer, and a compatibilizer with both a polar and a non-polar moiety on the same polymer molecule. The total plasticized natural and biodegradable polymers constitute a majority or predominant phase (?51 wt. %), while petroleum-based olefinic polymers form the minority phase. The composition can be made into a film containing at least one renewable, natural polymer component. Also described are the articles of manufacture that may use such films.
