Abstract: A system and method for interfacing a simulation device with a gaming device is disclosed. The system comprises a video game controller and a sensor. The controller is configured to mimic certain aspects of standard game controllers, providing control functions to a video game, with added functionality to accept input of an external control signal. The game controller is further configured to allow one or more of its control functions to be overridden by control functions provided by the external control signal. The sensor measures simulation parameters representative of actions performed on the simulation device and outputs simulation control signals representative of the simulation parameters. The sensor simulation control signals may be input to the game controller to provide control functions to the video game using both the simulation device and the game controller.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a baseball simulation device configured to provide an input for various baseball video games being played on gaming platforms such as a personal computer, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, XBOX, XBOX360, and the like. In one embodiment, the simulation device includes a signal emitter assembly attached to a bat, and detector assembly on a base unit shaped like a home plate. Various techniques for detecting different batting moves, such as hits to different directions, bunts, or checked swing, are disclosed. In one embodiment, the base unit can receive a conventional game controller for the gaming platform, thereby allowing operation of the gaming platform without having to remove the simulation device. In one embodiment, the base unit also has changeable firmware that allows different configuration for playing of different baseball video games.

Certain embodiments of the invention include: a sensor unit including one or more sensors configured to measure movement of the object in one or more directions and create a signal representative of the movement of the object in a first format, a transmitter configured to communicate the signal, and a user station having driver software configured to receive the signal, convert the signal into simulated input device data having the second format, and provide the simulated input device data to the computer application.
