Patent number: 9854010Abstract: Notifications are delivered to a user based in part on a user's current context. The notifications may be based on personal information (e.g. calendar events, tasks, alerts, and the like) as well as a context of a user. The notifications may be delivered using different types of notifications. The type of notification selected may be based on the current context of the user. Notifications may also be sent to other users (e.g. that are part of a trusted group) in response to a change in state of the event (e.g. the task completed). Instead of a user receiving notifications at preset times, notifications are delivered to the user using their current context. A group member may also create a message to another member requesting an action. When a response is made, the requesting group member receives a notification and the other group members may also receive notifications.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2013Date of Patent: December 26, 2017Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Vaidyanathan Raghavan, Bradley Stevenson, Gail Giacobbe, Xuelei Sun, March Rogers, Bojana Ostojic, Nathaniel Eric Breskin Auer, Ellen Steele

Patent number: 8984392Abstract: Example systems, methods, and data structures are directed at synchronizing documents. One example data structure includes receiving a request from a first client to edit a document, and sending short-term check out metadata to the first client to begin an editing session. The data structure includes a plurality of cells and a plurality of data objects defining content of the document. Each data object is associated with one of the cells and has an object identifier that uniquely identifies the data object within the associated cell, and is configured to communicate with other cells and with objects within the associated cell. In addition, each of the cells is defined so that each other cell remains unaffected by changes to data objects of the cell.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2011Date of Patent: March 17, 2015Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Simon P. Clarke, Miko Arnab Sakhya Singha Bose, Peter P. Baer, Hani Saliba, Xuelei Sun

Patent number: 8572030Abstract: Embodiments are provided for synchronizing file partitions utilizing a server storage model in a client-server computer network. Edits to content of an electronic document may be received at a client computer. The content may be included in a first partition of a file stored on a server computer. The first partition may include a first stream which includes the electronic document content. The file may include multiple partitions with each partition including one or more streams. The client computer may generate metadata in a second partition of the file. The metadata may be associated with the edits to the electronic document content in the first partition. The second partition may then be individually synchronized with the server computer to store the metadata. The first partition may then be individually synchronized with the server computer to store the edits made to the electronic document content.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2012Date of Patent: October 29, 2013Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Simon Peter Clarke, Miko Arnab S.
