  • Publication number: 20250112367
Abstract: A communication device, method and computer program product enable satellite communication via a patch antenna incorporated into an extendable display device. A flexible display support structure moveably attached to and positionable on a base housing between retracted and extended positions. One of the flexible display support structure and the base housing has an antenna surface that is covered by the other one while the flexible display support structure is retracted and uncovered while extended. A flexible display is coupled across a front side of the base housing and the flexible display support structure to present a larger portion while extended and a smaller portion while retracted. A patch antenna is positioned on the antenna surface. The patch antenna includes a ground plane, a substrate comprising a low dielectric constant and low loss material and positioned on the ground plane, and a conductive radiator patch positioned on the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20250112368
Abstract: An antenna assembly includes a patch antenna configured to communicate with a communication satellite and a second antenna or coil configured for radio frequency (RF) transceiving attached on top of the patch antenna in a stacked configuration. The patch antenna includes (i) a ground plane; (ii) a substrate comprising a low dielectric constant and low loss material and positioned on the ground plane; and (iii) a conductive radiator patch positioned on the substrate. A second outer edge of the second antenna or coil is spaced inwardly from a corresponding outer edge of the patch antenna to minimize interference between respective fringe fields. The antenna stack is attached to a device housing of a communication device and communicatively coupled to a communications subsystem to enable satellite communication.

  • Publication number: 20250080212
Abstract: A communication device, method and computer program product enable satellite communication via a patch antenna incorporated into foldable device having two housings that form a housing assembly coupled at a hinge to pivot between folded and unfolded positions. The patch antenna is positioned at a back portion of the housing assembly and includes a ground plane, a substrate of low dielectric constant and low loss material positioned on the ground plane, and a conductive radiator patch positioned on the substrate. In response to identifying a trigger to execute a communications application, a controller of the communication device communicates, via a communications subsystem and the patch antenna, with a communications satellite. In one or more embodiments, a display is positioned on, but spaced inward from an outer edge of, the patch antenna to display information even while the housing assembly is in the folded position.

  • Patent number: 12107613
Abstract: A communication device incorporates, and a method provides increased communication coverage for a second user device. A support structure has a first spatial portion including first radio frequency (RF) antenna(s) and a second spatial portion including second RF antenna(s). The first and second RF antenna(s) are respectively on different sides of a body of a person for communication coverage for a received RF signal. The first and second RF antenna(s) are spaced apart on the support structure for reduced interference from inter-antenna coupling. A communication subsystem demodulates the RF signal to a baseband signal that is transmitted through a communication cable to a second user device with low data latency.

  • Publication number: 20240128637
Abstract: A communication device provides a communication provide a multi-band antenna assembly incorporated into a telescoping support structure that is positionable between a compact arrangement and an extended arrangement. The antenna assembly includes at least one antenna having one antenna element that moves with an end portion of the telescoping support structure and another antenna element at an intermediate portion of the telescoping support structure that moves relative to the end portion. The two antenna elements are electromagnetically or conductively coupled to transceive radio frequency (RF) communication bands and add lower band(s) when the telescoping support structure is in the extended arrangement that are not supported when the telescoping support structure is in the compact arrangement.

  • Publication number: 20240128636
Abstract: A communication device and a method of making a communication device having an antenna assembly display and that supports multi-band communication. A multi-band antenna assembly of the communication device is incorporated into a telescoping support structure positionable between a compact arrangement and an extended arrangement to change an amount of a scrollable or rollable flexible display is presented. The antenna assembly includes at least one upper antenna positioned at an upper lateral side of a top end portion of the telescoping support portion and at least one lower antenna positioned at a lower lateral side of a bottom end portion of the telescoping support structure. The antenna assembly supports multi-band radio frequency (RF) communication in support of cellular and wireless protocols.
