  • Publication number: 20040222423
Abstract: A thin-film transistor (TFT) with body contacts is disclosed. It is used in polysilicon TFT LCD's. A body contact region for separating the gate electrode, a source region, and a drain region is made in the TFT. Through the dopants in the body contact region and different impurities in the source region and the drain region, a body-trigger bias is imposed on the body of the TFT. This method reduces the threshold voltage of the TFT driving circuit, thereby increasing the driving current.

  • Publication number: 20010050745
Abstract: An in-plane switching liquid crystal displaying device comprises a common electrode main line; a plurality of common electrodes connecting to the common electrode main line; a pixel electrode main line; a plurality of pixel electrodes connecting to the pixel electrode main line and overlapping the common electrodes; and a isolation layer disposed between the common electrodes and the pixel electrodes. The storage capacitance of the pixel device can be increased by using the additional capacitance generated from the overlaps of the pixel electrodes and the common electrodes. Therefore, the area required by the storage capacitor could be reduced to increase the aperture ratio. In addition, the present invention can be carried out with almost no increase in cost.

  • Publication number: 20010046027
Abstract: An electrode structure has independent pixel electrodes and connected common electrodes for a wide viewing angle liquid crystal display. The pixel electrode being a plate-shaped structure is fabricated on a lower layer above a substrate. The common electrode being a striped-shape structure is formed in an upper layer above the substrate. The common electrode may be a herringbone-shaped structure. The pixel electrodes and the common electrodes may overlay the data signal lines of the liquid crystal display. The arrangement of the electrode structure increases the effective light transmission. The electrode structure has the advantages that the tolerance for an electrostatic breakdown or residual electric charges is increased, and reproduction process is simplified.

  • Patent number: 6323034
Abstract: A thin film transistor design is described which is not subject to either dark or photo current leakage. The process to manufacture this device begins with the formation of a gate electrode on a transparent substrate followed by its over coating with layers of gate insulation, undoped amorphous silicon, doped amorphous silicon, and a second layer of chromium. The chromium and amorphous silicon layers are then patterned and etched to form a channel pedestal. In a key feature of the invention the vertical side walls of this pedestal are then given a protective coating of oxide or nitride, forming spacers. This is then followed by the deposition of second level metal which is etched to form source and drain electrodes with a suitable gap between them.
