Abstract: A building structure having high blast and penetration resistance, including a plurality of walls at least one of which is of a sandwich construction including four composite panel structures each including a first group of face panels having interlocking ends, a second group of face panels having interlocking ends spaced from said first group, a plurality of laceing panels extending diagonally between the two groups of face panels and having ends interlocking with the interlocking ends of the two groups of face panels, and a filling material filling the spaces between the two groups of face panels and embedding the laceing panels. The filling material filling the spaces between the face panels is a solid material such as cast concrete, and the space between the composite panel structures is filled with a loose filling material, such as loose sand, gravel, pebbles or stones.

Abstract: A blast-resistant container for receiving an explosive or explosive-suspect article comprises a high-strength outer housing, and an inner compressible layer of a mixture including vermiculite in a binder, effective to space the article from the outer housing, to absorb energy of the blast before transmited to the outer housing, to distribute the blast forces over a larger surface area of the outer housing, and to impart resistance to the penetration of fragments to the outer housing.

Abstract: A bomb disposal device comprises an outer protective housing of spheroidal configuration formed with upper and lower openings and pivotably mounted between a pair of wheels for transporting the device to the location of a suspected bomb. An open-top container and a cover overlying the container are disposed within the protective housing and are fixed to the mounting thereof such that the container and cover remain in their upright vertical positions during the pivoting of the housing. The device further includes a netting which may be used for drawing the suspected bomb into the container within the housing. The protective housing is pivoted to a horizontal position when drawing, or manually placing, the suspected bomb into the container within the housing, and then the housing is pivoted to its upright position when the device is to be towed to a location for disposing the suspected bomb.

Abstract: A protective wall structure having a high resistance to blast and fragments includes two spaced groups of panels of sheet metal in interlocking relationship and defining each of the two opposite faces of the wall structure, a plurality of diagonal panels extending diagonally in saw-tooth configuration between the face panels and in interlocking relationship with them, and a filling material of concrete or asphalt filling the space between the face panels and embedding the diagonal panels therein.
