  • Patent number: 8401096
Abstract: A method of operation in a communication system is presented in which a first terminal sends to a second terminal a communication including ranging information by which the second terminal is able to calculate a range between the first terminal and the second terminal. The communication is sent in a plurality of frames. In at least one of the frames ranging information is included in a ranging region of the frame. The size and position of the ranging region is known to the first and second terminals without a ranging information indicator being sent in the frame to indicate the size and position of the ranging region.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: March 19, 2013
    Assignee: Motorola Solutions, Inc.
Inventors: Menahem Raif, Yael Dux, Baruh Hason
  • Patent number: 8134967
Abstract: A method (700) of operation in a cellular communication system including at least one base station and, associated with the at least one base station, a plurality of user terminals in sectors to allow separate communications between the base station and the user terminals in different sectors, the method including providing (701, 703) a set of communication resource slots for distribution to the sectors for use in sending uplink traffic data, dividing (705, 707) at least part of the set into groups of slots having equal numbers of resource slots and allocating (709, 711) the groups of slots to the different sectors. A system, a base station and a mobile station operable using the method are also described.
