Patent number: 10984752Abstract: An electronic device may have a display with an array of pixels. The device may have an array of components such as an array of light sensors for capturing fingerprints of a user through an array of corresponding transparent windows in the display. A capacitive touch sensor, proximity sensor, force sensor, or other sensor may be used by control circuitry in the device to monitor for the presence of a user's finger over the array of light sensors. In response, the control circuitry can direct the display to illuminate a subset of the pixels, thereby illuminating the user's finger and causing reflected light from the finger to illuminate the array of light sensors for a fingerprint capture operation. The display may have display driver circuitry that facilitates the momentary illumination of the subset of pixels with uniform flash data while image data is displayed in other portions of the display.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2019Date of Patent: April 20, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Koorosh Aflatooni, Minhyuk Choi, Mohammad Ali Jangda, Sang Y. Patent number: 10943557Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus to transition a display device between operating modes using a single dedicated pin of a circuit connected to the display device. The dedicated pin can receive a packet signal corresponding to an operating mode for the display device, and the circuit can thereafter cause the display device to transition into the desired operating mode in response to receiving the packet signal. The operating mode can be a low power on mode where an interface connected to the circuit is deactivated and at least some circuitry of the display device is throttled or powered off. The display device can be driven in an all black state while in the low power on mode, thereby allowing the display device to more quickly transition out of the low power on mode compared to when the display device is completely off.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2019Date of Patent: March 9, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Yafei Bi, Lei He, Mohammad B. Patent number: 10923015Abstract: A display device may include a plurality of pixels that may display image data on a display. The display device may also include a circuit that may receive pixel data including a gray level for at least one pixel of the plurality of pixels. Patent number: 10916182Abstract: Systems and methods for improving perceived image quality of an electronic display communicatively coupled to an image data source that outputs a synchronization control signal, which indicates when an image frame is expected to stop being written, based on a source clock signal. The electronic display includes a display pixel row, a display driver, and a timing controller. The timing controller determines a target scan time to be used to write the image frame to the display pixel row and instructs the display driver to write the image frame to the display pixel row based on the target scan time and a display block signal, in which the timing controller instructs the display driver to continue writing the image frame to display pixel row after the electronic display receives the synchronization control signal when the synchronization control signal is received before the target scan time is reached.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 2017Date of Patent: February 9, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Sinan Alousi, Haifeng Li, Mohammad Hajirostam, Yafei Bi

Patent number: 10825419Abstract: In situations with reduced image changes, display panels, such as the ones disclosed herein, may reduce their power consumption by performing self-refresh cycles, in which they may display locally stored data in the display panel instead of retrieving it from an image buffer. Methods and circuitry for management of the self-refresh cycle may reduce jitter, luminance errors, and/or flickers that may be caused by untimely self-refresh cycles that may occur as a result of latency in the image buffer. In some implementations, the display panel may have a dedicated low latency input that notifies an arrival of an incoming image. In some implementations, the self-refresh cycles of the panel may be managed by a host or a buffer that is responsible for sending the images.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2017Date of Patent: November 3, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Yue Jack Chu, Christopher P. Publication number: 20200143750Abstract: A display device may include rows of pixels that display image data on a display and a circuit. The circuit may receive pixel data value of image data for a pixel in a first row of the rows of pixels, determine a weight factor to apply to the pixel data value based on a position of the first row with respect to the other rows, such that each row is associated with a current-resistance (IR) drop across the display. Patent number: 10573236Abstract: A display may have an array of pixels. Due to the presence of a notch in the display, the display may have some rows that are shorter than other rows in the display, and accordingly different gate line loading. To account for the gate line loading variations, the display driver circuitry may have gate driver circuits that provide different gate line signals to different rows of pixels within the display. In other arrangement, luminance adjustment circuitry may receive image data and generate corresponding compensated image data to account for gate line loading variations between rows of pixels in the display. The image data may be compensated based on the location of the pixel, the gray level of the image data, the display brightness, and/or temperature.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2019Date of Patent: February 25, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Shengkui Gao, Graeme M. Patent number: 10573211Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for differential sensing (DS), difference-differential sensing (DDS), correlated double sampling (CDS), and/or programmable capacitor matching to reduce display panel sensing noise. An electronic device may include one or more processors and an electronic display. The one or more processors may generate image data and adjust the image data based at least in part on display sensing feedback.
