  • Patent number: 10586840
Abstract: A TFT display screen device includes at least one active zone whose pixels are used for the display of an instrument cluster and the display of one or more warning or alarm), optionally icons inlaid in the instrument cluster. The screen also includes at least one dead zone not visible to the user. At least one dead zone is provided-with at least one light sensor and at least one control pixel which is activated when the single icon or at least one icon with which it is associated, is displayed in the active zone of the screen. The sensor is adapted to detect the activation of said at least one control pixel and to deliver a signal.

    Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.
    Inventors: Yahia Hammiche, John Cummings
  • Patent number: 10466407
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a combination indicating instrument, and has as its object to devise a hybrid combination display instrument for displaying information in a motor vehicle in a manner so as to provide a homogeneous and smooth transition between an analog display region and a digital display region within the hybrid combination display instrument. Also included for guiding the light generated by the light source, is a “light guiding device”, which has a first surface facing away from the viewer (viewing individual), and a second surface facing toward the viewer.

  • Patent number: 10274348
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a mechanical instrument cluster with a lighted pointer. The light pointer is driven by either a shaft or shaft-less stepper motor, and includes applique layers that are viewable when lighted. The pointers disclosed herein are capable of illuminating with at least two colors, with a single light emitting diode (LED) with multiple colors.

  • Publication number: 20190092227
Abstract: An analog gauge includes a pointer attached to a post and overlying and rotating relative to a substrate to indicate a first vehicle operating condition. A cap may be disposed on the pointer and opposite the substrate and over the post, with a first coil of electrically conductive material disposed therein. A light source may be mounted to the pointer and in electrical communication with the first coil. A second coil of electrically conductive material may provide power to the first coil via non-contact coupling. A stepper motor may cause the pointer to rotate. The second coil may be formed as a trace in a metal layer of a printed circuit board disposed beneath the substrate. The light source may cause the pointer to be illuminated. Alternatively, the light source may cause an applique in the cap to illuminate as a telltale icon, indicating a second vehicle operating condition.

  • Publication number: 20190071007
Abstract: An instrument cluster for a vehicle includes a gauge having a face plate, a pointer rotatably coupled to the face plate, and a gauge indicator on the face plate. The pointer includes an arm with a bottom plate and a top plate on opposed sides of the arm, a reflector coupled to the bottom plate, and a light source coupled to the bottom plate. The light source is positioned to emit a light along the arm and the reflector is positioned to reflect the light through the top plate.

  • Patent number: 9829353
Abstract: An instrument panel for a motor vehicle includes: a display area including a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion. The first portion is located in a first main plane of extension. The second portion is located in a second main plane of extension. The second main plane of extension is positioned relative to the first main plane of extension with respect to a user of the instrument panel such that the second portion of the display area is positioned further from a normal position of the eyes of the user relative to the first portion of the display area. The instrument panel further includes an optical conductor, the optical conductor including a first part and a second part. At least part of the second portion and/or at least part of the third portion of the display area is illuminated by the second part of the optical conductor.
