  • Patent number: 7912078
Abstract: A system and method are provided for controlling information flow from a channel service module (CSM) in an asymmetric channel environment. The method provides information for transmission to an OSI model PITY (physical) layer device with a channel buffer. The PHY device channel buffer current capacity is estimated. Information is sent to the channel buffer responsive to estimating the channel buffer capacity, prior to receiving a Polling Result message from the PHY device. Initially, Polling Request messages are sent to the PHY device, and Polling Result messages received from the PHY device, as is conventional. In response to analyzing the Polling messages, a transmission pattern is determined, which includes the amount of information to transmit and a period between transmissions.

  • Patent number: 7073001
Abstract: A method of synchronizing or initiating channel lock in a serial loop formed by an initializing transceiver and subject transceivers disclosed. Should a transceiver in the serial loop detect that its receiving serial channel is desynchronized, it sends an unlock signal to the next transceiver in the loop. The unlock signal guarantees that the next transceiver's receiving serial channel will be desynchronized. Only the initializing transceiver may initiate a channel lock sequence.

  • Patent number: 5438670
Abstract: A method and apparatus for prechecking (probing) the validity of an access request for writing result data to an external system prior to executing the instruction that generates the result is provided. This allows instruction execution to continue uninterrupted in the event that the write is allowed. The microprocessor's Address Unit issues a "probe" request to the Memory Management Unit (MMU) via an internal bus while saving the instruction's virtual address in a virtual address buffer local to the Address Unit. The MMU checks the validity of the "probe" request without converting the virtual address to a physical address and issues an access grant signal which is saved by the microprocessor's Execution Unit for subsequent use. The Execution Unit processes the data in parallel to the MMU checking the validity of the probe request.
