  • Patent number: 10013135
Abstract: Tools and techniques for adjustable user interfaces with movable separators are provided. Display devices provided by these tools may include fixed-size hardware display screens. These display screens include input control portions that are responsive to user input to receive commands from users, and include output display portions for presenting output to users in response to the commands. These display screens also include separators that are movable along the display screens, with the separators dividing the input control portions from the output display portions. In response to movements of the separators, the input control portions and the output display portions are resized relative to one another.

  • Publication number: 20100088185
Abstract: Described is a technology that uses the unused (free) space (that is not occupied by text of a text message) to encode metadata into the text message. The metadata may correspond to an advertisement, a sender's mood, a sender's location, and the like. The inclusion of an advertisement can help reduce the user's cost, while the inclusion of other types of data can reduce the number of messages that need to be sent, without requiring typing in the information. The receiving device processes the metadata to determine an action to take, such as to display an advertisement identified in the metadata, along with the text. The advertisement content may have been previously downloaded in anticipation of its later display.

  • Publication number: 20060005129
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of inputting ideographic characters into a handheld device, comprising steps of: predicting ideographic characters that correspond to symbols inputted by a user, for said user to select; predicting, based on a previous ideographic character that has been selected by said user, ideographic characters that most likely follow said previous ideographic character but cannot form a phrase with said previous ideographic character, for said user to select; and inputting ideographic characters that have been selected by said user into said handheld device. The present invention also provides an apparatus for inputting ideographic characters and a handheld device. According to the invention, more ideographic characters and punctuation marks are automatically predicted, which speeds up the process of inputting ideographic characters into handheld devices.
