  • Publication number: 20080256987
Abstract: Disclosed is a drum washing machine having ball balancers for rapidly reducing the vibration of a drum. The drum washing machine includes a drum rotatably installed so as to wash or dehydrate laundry; and balancers, each including a plurality of masses; a housing provided with a race having a rectangular section, on which the masses move in a circumferential direction; and a fluid filling the inside of the race for reducing noise caused by the circumferential movement of the masses. The race has a rectangular section, corner portions of which are rounded, and a value obtained by dividing the radius of the corner portions by the radius of the masses is between 0.4 and 0.9 so as to effectively reduce the vibration of the drum. The drum washing machine effectively reduces the vibration of the drum while using a small amount of the fluid.

  • Patent number: 6691359
Abstract: A washing machine and a method of controlling the same by braking a spin-drying tub after interrupting the power of a motor for the spin-drying tub is disclosed. The washing machine comprises a mode selection unit for selecting a spin-drying mode, and a spin-drying timer for selecting a spin-drying time. The spin-drying timer includes a spin-drying switch and a motor control switch each having a different operation time. When the spin-drying mode is selected by the mode selection unit, the spin-drying switch of the spin-drying timer is connected to the solenoid of a drain motor and the motor control switch is connected to a motor driving circuit via a starting switch of the drain motor. As the motor control switch is turned off (the spin-drying switch is turned on) at a time earlier than a selected spin-drying time to interrupt power for the motor, the rotation speed of the spin-drying tub is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5906117
Abstract: A clothes washing machine has a washing water spurting apparatus for spurting washing water directly upwardly from the center of a pulsator. The washing water spurting apparatus has at least one guide duct and a spurt cap. The spurt cap has a canopy forming a spurt hole. The canopy has a core and an arcuate rim surrounding the core, between which the spurt hole is formed. The core has ribs extending from the core toward a cylindrical inner surface of the arcuate rim. Distal ends of the ribs are spaced a predetermined distance from the cylindrical inner surface. The ribs increase a spurting pressure of the washing water and prevent foreign materials from entering the guide duct downwardly through the spurt hole.
