  • Patent number: 11668180
Abstract: A stick-slip vibration mitigation system and a method of using the system are provided. The system includes a sensor, a processor, a non-transitory storage medium, and a controller. The system is operable to be used with a drill-string in a wellbore during a drilling process to mitigate stick-slip vibration of the drill-string.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 4, 2019
Date of Patent: June 6, 2023
    Assignee: ConocoPhillips Company
Inventors: Yang Zha, Son V. Pham
  • Patent number: 10907464
Abstract: A method for automatically controlling drilling weight-on-bit for using a drill-string to drill along a wellbore includes establishing a drill-string model and a wellbore model, wherein the drill-string has a plurality of components along the length thereof, and the wellbore has a plurality of sections. A surface tension data of the drill-string can be acquired, and a friction coefficient-depth distribution can be obtained by calibrating the surface tension data in the drill-string model and wellbore model, and the drilling weight-on-bit can be predicted according to the calibrated drill-string and wellbore models.

  • Publication number: 20190277135
Abstract: A method is provided to determine and mitigate one or more downhole events of a drill string in a wellbore. The method includes receiving, via a processor, drilling data from one or more surface sensors. The drilling data is processed into a plurality of segments. Each of the plurality of segments are processed by a pre-trained model such that one or more labels are determined. The one or more labels are relating to one or more downhole events corresponding to each of the plurality of segments.

  • Patent number: 9926776
Abstract: Methods and systems output at least one drill string whirl attribute, such as magnitude, orientation, velocity and type, without requiring determination of whirl frequency. Transforming acceleration data into drill string motions provides a path of one point along the drill string. Fitting these motions throughout one complete revolution of the drill string to a revolution ellipse, for example, provides revolution ellipse centers defining centers of rotation for each revolution fitted. A whirl ellipse, for example, derives from another fitting using a plurality of the revolution ellipse centers. Coefficients from the whirl ellipse and/or vector direction of the centers provide at least one whirl attribute for output.
