    Abstract: A technique is provided for processing a data stream between a server and a client entity in a packet communication network. The data stream is composed of packets steered by a processing device. Upon the receipt of a first packet of the data stream, the processing device implements a phase of observing this data stream, in the course of which the packets of the data stream which are exchanged between the server and the client entity and which follow the first packet are transmitted. On detection of congestion associated with the data stream, the data stream is then rejected and the processing device does not transmit packets of the data stream which are exchanged between the server and the client entity and are received after detection of the congestion.

The measurement method comprising the following steps: the first terminal sends a specific stream of packets, each having a different determined size, the sizes being such that in a set of r packets, r being a positive integer less than or equal to the number of packets of the stream, there are not any two subsets of the set of r packets comprising the same number of packets and having the same cumulative total size; the measurement unit analyzes at least one packet and at most r packets of the stream passing in transit through the network equipment.

    Abstract: A method is provided for transmitting a sequence of N virtual network identifier fields from a client entity to a server entity, the server entity belonging to a packet switching transport network. The method includes, at the level of the client entity, choosing a coder from among a plurality of coders, coding the sequence of N identifier fields with the aid of the chosen coder, and writing the coded sequence and the associated coding parameters in a packet. At the level of the server entity, on receipt of a packet, the method includes reading the coding parameters in the packet received, so as to identify at least the coder used and in decoding the coded sequence received with the aid of a decoder corresponding to the identified coder.
