    Abstract: Simultaneous playback and storage of digital media content is described. In one aspect, digital media content is stored by reading a first portion of the digital media content from a content storage and, while reading the first portion of the digital media content from the content storage, copying the first portion of the digital media content to an image file. In addition, the first portion of the digital media content is passed from the content storage to a receiving device, and a map file is updated to indicate that the first portion of the digital media content has been copied to the image file.
