  • Patent number: 11616247
Abstract: A fuel cell membrane electrode assembly having: a proton exchange membrane, an anode catalyst coating on one side of the membrane, and a cathode catalyst coating on the other side of the membrane. The cathode catalyst coating has at least two carbon catalyst layers, with a low porosity layer adjacent to a high porosity layer. The high porosity layers have a volume fraction that is higher than the volume fraction of the low porosity layers.

  • Publication number: 20100210454
Abstract: The present invention is generally directed to a nanocomposite catalyst material for electrochemical devices such as fuel cells, comprising metal nanoparticles impregnated on a conductive support that is coated with a transition metal compound. The metal nanoparticles may comprise platinum; the metal phosphate may comprise tantalum oxyphosphate, niobium oxyphosphate, tantalum oxide, niobium oxide, or any combination thereof; and the conductive support may comprise carbon. In addition, the present invention provides for a method of making the catalyst material.
