Abstract: A package, which includes an areal medical device like a surgical mesh, comprises a folder supporting the areal medical device. The folder comprises a base panel, which has two side edges opposing each other and which includes at least one tab adapted for holding the areal medical device on the base panel. The folder further comprises two side flaps, each of the side flaps emerging from a respective one of said side edges of the base panel and being folded about said respective side edge onto the base panel into a respective folded state. The side flaps and the at least one tab cover at most 15% of the area of the areal medical device.
