    Abstract: An insulating bearing includes an outer ring, an inner ring, and rolling elements arranged between the outer and inner rings. One of the outer and/or inner ring is an insulated ring having a body and an insulating layer overmolded on the body. The insulating layer has a dielectric constant lower than 5 @ 1 MHz, more preferably lower than 4 @ 1 MHz, more preferably lower than 3.5 @ 1 MHz. The present disclosure also provides a method for manufacturing an insulating bearing. The method includes overmolding the insulating layer so that the weld seam of the insulating layer after overmolding avoids the main force-loading area of the insulated ring and/or is formed where the thickness of the insulating layer is the maximum. By overmolding, the insulating layer provides sufficient insulation even when there is high voltage and high frequency current, thereby preventing electrical corrosion of the bearing.

An electrically insulated bearing ring has an electrically insulation layer composed of the composite material disposed on at least one surface to block leakage currents, thereby inhibiting the galvanic corrosion damage of the bearing.

The liner is non-metallic and has a base portion covering the inner or outer surface of the bearing ring and a plurality of side wall sections extending radially over at least a portion of at least one axial side of the ring. The base is formed from a plurality of circumferentially adjacent axially extending subsections, each pair of which is connected by a least one hinge having a radial thickness less than a radial thickness of the base portion. Also a bearing assembly that includes a bearing housing and the bearing ring with the liner contacting the bearing housing.

An electrically insulated rolling bearing incorporates the electrically insulated bearing ring. The rolling bearing has only a minimal leakage current due to the electrically insulated bearing ring.
