  • Patent number: 6202662
Abstract: A ventilated umbrella includes a support frame forming a tetragonal surface, a first canopy secured on the tetragonal surface of the support frame and having an outer edge, a loop-shaped second canopy secured on the tetragonal surface of the support frame and having an inner edge located under the outer edge of the first canopy, a gap defined between the first canopy and the second canopy, and a plurality of elastic members each having a first end secured to the support frame, and a second end secured to the inner edge of the second canopy. In such a manner, the gap between the outer edge of the first canopy and the inner edge of the second canopy is increased by the drawing force of the elastic members, thereby enhancing the ventilation effect.

  • Patent number: 6170499
Abstract: An improved parasol with an improved ventilation system. The parasol, includes a foldable frame with concentric first and second panels. The radius of the first panel is shorter than the length of the rib of the parasol. The second panel is annular in shape and covers the area from the outer periphery of the first panel to the outermost edge of the parasol. A cord is provided between the second panel's inner periphery and the stretchers to enlarge the gaps at the areas where the first and the second panel overlap. A plurality of elastic loops are provided at the first panel's outer periphery to provide elasticity to the first panel to prevent the first panel from turning inside out in strong wind.

  • Patent number: 6167894
Abstract: An umbrella is disclosed that has a panel and a frame that has a shaft, an upper nest and a main runner movably mounted on the shaft. A plurality of main ribs having one end pivotally attached to the upper nest. A plurality of stretchers having one end pivotally attached to the main runner and the other end pivotally attached to the corresponding main rib to support the main rib. A secondary runner is movably mounted on the shaft between the upper nest and the main runner, and a plurality of secondary ribs, which are shorter than the main ribs, correspondingly have one end pivotally attached to the secondary runner and the other end attached to the free end of the corresponding main rib. Whereby the umbrella frame is strengthened enough to resist a strong wind.

  • Patent number: 6155278
Abstract: A ventilated umbrella includes a support frame forming a fully expand surface when it is fully expanded, a first canopy secured on the inner area of the fully expanded surface of the support frame and having an outer edge, and a band-shaped second canopy secured on the outer area of the fully expanded surface of the support frame and slightly overlapped by the first canopy. The second canopy has an inner edge located under the outer edge of the first canopy, and multiple extensions strips each extending inward from the inner edge of the second canopy, and each secured to the support frame. In such a manner, the gap between the outer edge of the first canopy and the inner edge of the second canopy is enlarged by stretching each of the extension strips, thereby enhancing the ventilating effect.

  • Patent number: 6062242
Abstract: An improved umbrella frame comprises a stick having an upper sleeve which has an upper nest set on the topside thereof being installed on the stick. And below the upper sleeve, the stick is further installed a mid runner and a lower runner between which a spring is set. A pluralities of long ribs are radiated around the nest and each of which have a first end pivotally connected thereto. A plurality of short ribs are radiated around the mid runner and each of which have a firs end pivotally connected thereto, and a second end pivotally connected to the long ribs. Wherein, the short ribs are made of fiber material and are formed in a solid rectangular shape with the lateral edge being longer than the top and bottom edge.

  • Patent number: 6006769
Abstract: The umbrella has a frame composed of a plurality of ribs, stretchers and a combined panel consisting of a main panel and a secondary panel, wherein, the area of the main panel is smaller than that of the fully expanded ribs of the frame, and the inner edge of the secondary panel matches the outer edge of the main panel. The main and secondary panels concentrically cover the frame, and a plurality of ropes are mounted between the inner edge of the secondary panel and the frame, which are used to increase spaces between the outer edge of the main panel and the inner edge of the secondary panel, and moreover, improve efficiency of air convection, save panel material and simplify manufacturing procedures.

  • Patent number: 5746235
Abstract: A linkage device for an umbrella includes a pivot and a joint. A frame having an opening defined therein is integrally formed on a periphery of the pivot. A deformable leaf is provided to the joint and has a configuration to mate with a recess defined in the joint. Furthermore, a pivot rod is provided to the joint and functions as a pivot when the stretchers and the ribs are expand or folded. Therefore, when a portion of the frame is received within the joint, the deformable leaf is able to securely enclose the portion of the frame within the joint.

  • Patent number: 5715853
Abstract: A structure which is easy to be assemble and can firmly combine a rib with a stretcher of an umbrella is disclosed. The structure comprises a fastening and a link. The fastening has a body defining a passage for receiving a rib of the umbrella and a locating piece integrally extending from an outer periphery of the body. The locating piece defines a slot perpendicular to and in communication with the passage. The link has a block. The block defines a front end and a rear end, a first plate integrally extending outwardly from a bottom of the front end, a second plate integrally extending outwardly and upwardly from a top face thereof at the front end, and a pipe integrally extending from the rear end thereof for receiving a stretcher of the umbrella. The block further defines two concave side walls extending between the front end and the rear end thereof to conform with the outer periphery of the body.
