The electronic device has a plurality of mechanical mechanisms including at least a first mechanical mechanism and a second mechanical mechanism. The method includes following steps: driving the first mechanical mechanism by applying a first control signal to the first mechanical mechanism; driving the second mechanical mechanism by applying a second control signal to the second mechanical mechanism; comparing the first control signal with a first predetermined threshold, and accordingly generating a first comparison result; and selectively adjusting the second control signal according to at least the first comparison result.

If at least one detected value exceeds the preset value, the recording will be ceased. Then, the rotation speed of the optical disk drive is decreased, and the recording is resumed with the decreased rotation speed. If at least one of the temperature of the drive, the wobble jitter and the estimated write power exceeds the reset value before recording starts, the rotation speed of the optical disk drive is decreased before recording.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a power control system and a method which are capable of generating an optimized output power of the optical disk drive under a variation of operational environment. The power control system comprises a photo detecting unit and a laser emitting unit, two sample-and-hold circuits, two amplifiers, a power control unit, and a digital-to-analog converter. The sample-and-hold circuits and the amplifiers construct a power signal circuit for generating the reading or writing power signals to drive the laser driver. The photo detecting unit detects current laser power and generates a feedback signal. The power control unit is adapted to define a power to feedback signal transfer function and a power-to-DAC transfer function according a relationship between the laser power, the feedback signal and the DAC value. The power control unit transmits a compensating signal to the digital-to-analog converter for compensating the variation of laser power under a temperature variation.

    Abstract: The present invention sets forth a method and a system for calibrating optimized power of an optical pick-up unit of an optical disk drive. The system comprises a micro-processor, and a signal processor. The micro-processor coupled to the optical pick-up unit sets an initial power corresponding to an optical disk, and calculates a predetermined number of power levels to cover the range of the initial power for performing a recording procedure. The signal processor coupled to the micro-processor determines whether a servo state failed during optimized power calibration, and calculates recording performance of each power level. The signal processor transmits the servo state and the recording performance to the micro-processor for determining the optimized power.

    Abstract: A recording medium type identification method and device is disclosed. The method and device of the present invention may easily identify the type of a DVD disk. The present invention is to remove pre-pit components, if any, from a wobble signal obtained from an optical disk to be identified, comparing a first peak-to-peak level of the wobble signal before the pre-pit removal process to a second peak-to-peak level of the wobble signal subjecting to the pre-pit removal process, and determining the optical disk type according to the comparison result. Alternatively, the present invention is to band-pass filter the wobble signal of the optical disk to be identified with a frequency range defined based on a center frequency of the wobble of a predetermined type of optical disk, driving a spindle motor with the processed wobble signal, and determining the type of the optical disk according to the rotation condition of the spindle motor.

    Abstract: In an optical recording system, according to a wobble sync signal obtained from a wobble signal associated with a physical track of a recording medium being recorded with input data by a recording module operated in a default constant angular velocity (CAV) recording mode, operation of the recording module can be switched from the CAV recording mode to a constant linear velocity (CLV) recording mode by a mode control switch. The mode control switch is forced to switch operation of the recording module to the CLV recording mode when result of a comparison between a write clock signal generated from the wobble sync signal when the recording module is operated by the mode control switch in the CAV recording mode, and a threshold signal corresponding to a threshold recording speed in the CAV recording mode indicates that the recording mode should be switched to the CLV recording mode but the mode control switch still keep the recording module staying in the CAV recording mode.

    Abstract: In the present invention, an identification code of the recording medium is searched in a first memory and a second memory. If the identification code is failed to be found in the memories, an optimized power calibration (OPC) operation is executed to generate new OPC data. The new OPC data is stored in the first memory. If the identification code is found in one of the memories, a current temperature and a past temperature of the recording medium are compared. If a difference between the temperatures exceeds a predetermined value, then the OPC operation is performed. Therefore, unnecessary optimized power calibration (OPC) operations are avoided. The power used for the recorder is also adjusted according to the temperature variation.

    Abstract: An optical recording system includes an optical pickup, a power auto-control device, and a digital signal processor. The optical pickup includes a laser diode and a photo detector. The power auto-control device generates a drive voltage for driving the laser diode to generate a recording light beam incident upon an optical storage medium. The photo detector is operable to generate a sub-beam added signal from light that was reflected by the optical storage medium and that was detected by the photo detector during recording using the recording light beam. The digital signal processor compares the sub-beam added signal from the photo detector with a predetermined target value, and enables the power auto-control device to adjust the drive voltage in such a manner that the sub-beam added signal approaches the predetermined target value based on result of the comparison made by the digital signal processor.
