Patent number: 10612747Abstract: A linear light fixture with gap filler elements. The fixture comprises two primary structural components: a base and a light engine, which may be removably attached. The base comprises a body with end panels at both ends and is mountable to an external structure. The light engine comprises the light sources, an elongated lens, and any other optical elements that tailor the outgoing light to a particular profile. A gap filler element is disposed between the light engine and the end panels at one or both ends of the base to fill the space between those elements, giving the appearance that the light engine extends continuously to the end panel and eliminating direct imaging of the light sources outside the fixture. External reflectors may also be included to further shape the output beam.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2013Date of Patent: April 7, 2020Assignee: Ideal Industries Lighting LLCInventors: Elizabeth Rodgers, Benjamin Beck, James Bowden, Yaote Huang, William Laird Dungan

Patent number: 10309627Abstract: Retrofit systems and methods are disclosed for lighting installations, and in particular, to retrofit systems and methods used to retrofit troffer-style lighting installations with LED light sources. Retrofit systems can be used with different light fixtures, but those described are particularly adapted for use with troffer-style fixtures. These retrofit systems can provide the same amount of light as traditional light fixtures already do, for example 1600-4000 lumens or more. The retrofit systems can be used with many different light sources but are particularly well-suited for use with solid state light sources or light engines, such as those utilizing LEDs. Some embodiments of the present invention comprise a mechanical mounting system for installing an LED light engine within an existing lighting system housing or pan, such as a troffer pan, without penetrating the ceiling plenum.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2013Date of Patent: June 4, 2019Assignee: CREE, INC.Inventors: Shawn Heeter, Vasavi Mandavilli, Yaote Huang, Mark Edward Dixon, Kurt W Wilcox, Nicholas W Medendorp, Jr.

Patent number: 10302262Abstract: A light fixture includes a LED assembly and a housing. A first end cap is permanently connected to the troffer. A lens assembly comprises a lens covering the LED assembly and a second end cap, the lens having a first end connected to the second end cap and a second end releasably connected to the first end cap. The second end cap is releasably connected to the housing such that the lens and the second end cap are releasably mounted to the housing as a unit. The lens has a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge where a first magnetic strip is attached to the first longitudinal edge and a second magnetic strip is attached to the second longitudinal edge. The first and second magnetic strips are magnetically adhered to the housing.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2017Date of Patent: May 28, 2019Assignee: Cree, Inc.Inventors: Yaote Huang, James Hugh Bowden, Jr., Curt Progl

Patent number: 10100988Abstract: A linear light fixture with gap filler elements. External reflectors are included to further shape the output beam. The reflectors may be shaped to define louvers which direct some of the emitted light in a direction opposite the primary emission direction, e.g., as uplight. The fixtures may be connected in a serial arrangement using a joiner.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2014Date of Patent: October 16, 2018Assignee: CREE, INC.Inventors: Elizabeth Rodgers, Benjamin Beck, James Bowden, Yaote Huang, William Laird Dungan

Publication number: 20170009957Abstract: A linear LED lighting system, assembly and/or fixture distributes luminance efficiently in certain applications, such as for ceiling lighting used in certain retail environments. According to example embodiments of the invention, a linear LED lighting system includes at least two tilted, parabolic reflecting surfaces and a linear array of LED devices, wherein at least some of the LED devices are substantially disposed at a focus line of at least one of the tilted, parabolic reflecting surfaces. A diffuser or diffusive lens can be disposed adjacent to the parabolic reflecting surfaces where light exits the system to provide color mixing and/or eliminate potential hot spots. The tilt of the reflecting surfaces can be changed to adjust the illumination pattern. A lighting system according to example embodiments of the invention can be designed for retrofit installation or as a complete fixture.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 9, 2015Publication date: January 12, 2017Inventors: Jin Hong Lim, P.
