  • Patent number: 7001383
Abstract: A method is provided for ablating tissue in a heart of a subject during an ablation procedure. The method includes applying a local treatment to the heart at a plurality of sites designated for ablation. At each respective site, a parameter is sensed that is indicative of a level of ablation at the site. The method preferably includes displaying a map of the heart, and designating, on the map, during the ablation procedure, indications of the respective levels of ablation at the sites, responsive to the respective sensed parameters.

  • Publication number: 20050113860
Abstract: A device useful for accessing the left atrium is provided. The device comprises an elongated tubular body and a dilating tip. The tubular body has an axis, a proximal end, a distal end and a lumen longitudinally extending therethrough. The dilating tip is slidably mounted on the distal end of the tubular body. The dilating tip comprises a segmented surface that is generally transverse to the axis of the tubular body, and a generally rigid tube extending distally from the segmented surface and having a sharp distal end. Distal movement of the tubular body relative to the dilating tip exerts a force on the segmented surface to thereby open the segmented surface.

  • Publication number: 20050021015
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device assembly and tissue ablation transducer having a plurality of helical elements that can be operated out of phase to orient the acoustical energy beam forward or backward in the longitudinal direction. The transducers includes a cylindrical inner electrode, a cylindrical piezoelectric material disposed over the inner electrode, and a cylindrical outer electrode disposed over the cylindrical piezoelectric material. Spiral grooves are cut through at least the outer electrode separating the transducer into a plurality of functionally discrete helical transducer segments. The helical transducer segments can be operated independent from one another. An array of intertwined helical transducers arranged linearly along a helical axis are also contemplated.

  • Publication number: 20040147920
Abstract: A method for ablating tissue in an organ inside a body of a subject includes bringing a probe inside the body into a position in contact with the tissue to be ablated, and measuring one or more local parameters at the position using the probe prior to ablating the tissue. A map of the organ is displayed, showing, based on the one or more local parameters, a predicted extent of ablation of the tissue to be achieved for a given dosage of energy applied at the position using the probe. The given dosage of energy is applied to ablate the tissue using the probe, and an actual extent of the ablation at the position is measured using the probe subsequent to ablating the tissue. The measured actual extent of the ablation is displayed on the map for comparison with the predicted extent.

  • Patent number: 6650927
Abstract: A method and apparatus for mapping a structure in a body of a subject includes capturing a three-dimensional (3D) image of the structure comprising diagnostic information, and generating a 3D geometrical map of the structure using a probe inserted into the structure. The image is registered with the map, such that each of a plurality of image points in the image is identified with a corresponding map point in the map. The map is displayed such that the diagnostic information associated with each of the image points is displayed at the corresponding map point.
