    Abstract: A rehabilitation system includes left-hand and right-hand rehabilitation apparatuses that cooperate with programming instructions operating on a patient computer and on a therapist computer that is remote from the patient computer. Each apparatus includes a hand section with movement sensors supported on the backside of the hand of the patient from which patient hand movements can be derived, finger sections moveable relative to the hand section with sensors to track flexing and movement of the finger sections relative to the hand, a wrist section supporting vital sign sensors communicating with the patient, and adjustable resistive elements applied to the finger or hand movements. The system enables a therapist to communicate target movements to the user, as well as allowing the comparison between patient movements conducted at different times or with different hands. Sensor data can be used to measure patient performance that is provided to the patient and the therapist.

    Abstract: An automated measurement apparatus has a tooth holder receiving a tooth and a measurement sensor that senses a measured distance to a corresponding surface portion of the tooth. Linear and rotational actuation assemblies support the measurement sensor and the tooth holder for translating and angular relative movement. A controller operates (i) the rotational actuation assembly to locate the tooth holder relative to the measurement sensor in one or more angular orientations and (ii) the linear actuation assembly to displace the measurement sensor through an array of measurement locations within a measurement plane to capture the measured distance at each array location at each angular orientation and thereby define a geometry of the tooth surfaces. The controller may define the geometry subsequent to a dental preparation alteration of the tooth and calculate an alteration metric representing one or more aspects of the defined geometry for comparison to a stored target metric.

The instructor workstation has a dental tool and a sensory system to sense an operating characteristic(s) of the dental tool while the dental tool performs a dental procedure. The apprentice workstation has a training tool with a handle grip representative of the handle grip of the dental tool. The training tool may have a vibrotactile actuation system embedded in the training tool to generate vibrotactile feedback through the handle grip of the training tool and a processing unit to operate the vibrotactile actuation system according to the operating characteristic(s) sensed by the sensory system of the instructor workstation. Alternatively, the training tool may be operational to perform said dental procedure, in which the processing unit compares operating characteristics sensed by the apprentice workstation and by the instructor workstation.
