  • Patent number: 7071979
Abstract: An image sensing apparatus senses an image by illuminating a document by a light source including three light emitting diodes which emit light of red, green, and blue so that the light reflected from the document is incident on a sensor array which in turn generates an electric signal corresponding to the incident light, wherein a predetermined light emitting diode is also turned on during a period in which no image sensing operation is performed thereby making it possible to stabilize the intensity of light illuminating an image. Thus, the invention provides a high-performance and small-sized image sensing apparatus at a low cost.

  • Patent number: 6775033
Abstract: An image communication apparatus and a communication controlling method thereon, wherein in the case where image data having an attribute not specified by the ITU-T recommendation is transmitted, regardless of an attribute of image data to be transmitted, a reception command including a first image attribute specified by the ITU-T recommendation are sent out, and information including a second image attribute of image data to be transmitted is sent out in a phase transmitting the image data after the reception command is sent out. And when an image is transmitted with the second image attribute, a transmission takes place with a binary file transfer communication procedure following a first communication procedure specified by the ITU-T recommendation so that image data having an image attribute not standardized by the ITU-T recommendation can be transmitted.

  • Patent number: 5905582
Abstract: An inexpensive image communication apparatus allows an external information processing terminal to be connected thereto, and uses an interface capable of high-speed data transfer for communication with the PC. The image communication apparatus receives an instruction from the external information processing terminal through an interface control unit in a state in which reception can be performed. When an instruction from the information processing terminal is received while communication is preformed by a communication unit and an instruction from an operation panel is received, the image communication apparatus outputs information indicating that the instruction cannot be executed, in a state in which the interface control unit can perform transmission.

  • Patent number: 5877782
Abstract: An image recording apparatus comprises a FAX unit and a printer unit. The printer unit has an ink-jet printing head, and records image data received by the FAX unit or image data read by an original sheet reader in a copy mode. A sensor constituted by an actuator and a photointerrupter for detecting whether an original sheet is set is arranged in the original sheet reader. In a stand-up state of the housing of the apparatus, the actuator is removed from the photointerrupter, and this sensor is set in the same state as in the original presence state. Even if a power supply is turned on in this state, a recovery operation which is normally executed is inhibited. With this operation, contamination and occurrence of trouble caused by ink leakage can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 5832190
Abstract: An image recording apparatus includes a facsimile (FAX) unit and a printer unit. The printer unit has an ink-jet printing head, and records an image in accordance with image data received by the FAX unit. In this apparatus, when the power supply is turned on, the printer unit performs a hard power-ON initialization process to initialize a watchdog timer, registers, the work area of a RAM, and the like, and also initializes the RAM to erase data left in buffers. Thereafter, the printer unit transfers to a standby state. When a print request or a printer setting request is generated in the standby state, a soft power supply initialization process is executed to perform checking of the RAM, initialization of the work area, and initialization of carriage control and paper feed control, and the like. In the standby state, LEDs and the like of the printer unit are kept OFF. An operation error of the printer unit caused by remaining data can be prevented, and reliability of the apparatus can be improved.

  • Patent number: 5828466
Abstract: An apparatus stores image data sent as a facsimile signal through a line in an image memory (103) and records the image data on a recording medium upon reducing the data. The apparatus further includes an interface for connection with an external information processing unit such as a personal computer so that image data input from the external information processing unit through the interface can be stored in the image memory (103) and recorded on a recording medium. Designation of image data in the image memory (103) is allowed from the external information processing unit. The designated image data is retained after a recording operation. In addition, a reducing/recording operation is inhibited when the designated image data is to be recorded.

  • Patent number: 5661568
Abstract: A data communication apparatus for sending communication protocol signals and data has a low speed modem and a high speed modem. The protocol signal can be communicated by the high speed modem, and data communication can be started by the high speed modem without communication of a protocol signal by the low speed modem after communication of the protocol signals by the high speed modem. Other aspects of the data communication apparatus include the performance of ECM communication, the detection and storage of a communication result of a defined type to enable modification of future operations based on the stored result and the provision of first and second communication modes using recommended and not recommended communication protocols. The data communication apparatus can also communicate the protocol signal as data of a type otherwise communicated.

  • Patent number: 5617220
Abstract: In a facsimile apparatus having a V.17 MODEM, a controller examines a FIF of a received PPR. If all FIF bits are "1", the controller quickly transmits a CTC including transmission speed information by a V.21 MODEM then transmits a long training by a V.17 MODEM, transmission speed of which has been set to that indicated by the transmission speed information, and retransmits the frames required by the PPR at transmission speed of previous transmission of image information to the current retransmission or transmission speed slower than that of previous retransmission to the current retransmission. If there are any "0" bits in the FIF, the apparatus transmits a short training by the V.17 MODEM and retransmits the the frames required by the PPR at the transmission speed of the previous transmission of image information to the current transmission or transmission speed of previous retransmission to the current retransmission.
