  • Patent number: 6393196
Abstract: An authoring system variously processes a bitstream carrying information about moving picture data, audio data, and subpicture data constituting titles having a sequence of related content, generates a bitstream constituting a title with content corresponding to a user selection, efficiently records the generated bitstream to a specific recording medium, and reproduces title content corresponding to a user selection from the bitstream thus generated. Editing content input by a user using a keyboard or other device for the multimedia bitstream content is the source data is converted to authoring encoding parameters. Whether certain conditions determined by the data structure and other considerations of the authoring system are met is determined, and if the conditions are not satisfied, feedback is given to the user to prompt re-entry of the editing information.

  • Patent number: 6181872
Abstract: An interleaving method for generating a bitstream from plural video objects containing compressed video data by arranging in the presentation order, wherein interleaved data blocks in which plural video objects are contiguously arrayed using interleaved units each longer than the shortest read time ILVUMT such that the video object presentation start and end points are aligned. The ratio between the presentation times of video objects with the shortest presentation time and video objects other than those with the shortest presentation time is within a range obtained from the shortest read time ILVUMT, the maximum jumpable distance JM, and the smallest control unit. contiguous data blocks wherein the presentation start points and end points of the video objects arrayed therein are not aligned.

  • Patent number: 6064796
Abstract: A signal conversion recording method applies a signal recording method whereby a video signal converted to a frame rate greater than the frame rate of the signal source by repeating particular fields plural times is converted to an intermediate signal having a frame rate substantially equal to the frame rate of the original signal source by deleting these repeated redundant fields. This intermediate signal is compression coded to obtain the recording signal, and the recording signal is recorded to a recording medium together with a repeat first field flag RFF declaring whether a field was deleted, and a top field first flag TFF declaring which of the two fields in the each of the resulting frames is first on the time-base, is wherein when plural logical recording periods are provided on a single recording medium, the video signal is converted to the recording signal so that the flags hold particular values at the start and end of each recording period.

  • Patent number: 5854873
Abstract: A multimedia optical disk comprising at least one information layer to which plural system streams and plural program chain information entries are recorded. The plural system streams are interleaved in group.sub.-- of.sub.-- pictures GOP units data containing at least moving pictures, and reproduction control information containing special reproduction mode information declaring the address of the next data to be reproduced according to the special reproduction mode used. The plural program chain information entries declare the system stream reproduction sequence of a program chain comprising more than one system stream. At least one system stream is shared by plural program chains. The address information of the first reproduction control information and the address information of the last reproduction control information in each system stream are recorded to the program chain information according to the system stream reproduction sequence.

  • Patent number: 5661523
Abstract: A moving picture coding apparatus for compressing moving picture video signal to a target amount "TARGET" which has an optimized size to properly fit in a disc. The moving picture video signal is divided into a plurality of groups of pictures (GOPs), each GOP has a plurality of frames. During a first cycle operation, the video signal is compressed by DCT unit and quantizer using a fixed parameter from a contant generator, and the following amounts are measured: compressed data amount "GOP(i)" in each GOP; compressed data amount "Frame(j)" in-each frame; and compressed data amount "GOP.sub.-- Total" in total GOPs. Using these measured amounts, appropriate size for each frame is calculated in a calculator. Then, in the second cycle operation, the video signal for each frame is compressed according to the calculated appropriate size, and recorded on a disc.

  • Patent number: 5467135
Abstract: A method of coding image data with coefficients between fields by increasing the coefficients prior to coding comprising the steps of: (1) detecting a motion vector in a reference field to a sample field to check whether the reference field is zoomed in or out relative to the sample field, data of the reference field being coded based on the sample field; (2) zooming out the reference field when the reference field is zoomed in relative to the sample field, and zooming in the reference field when the reference field is zoomed out relative to the sample field according to the motion vector; and (3) coding the reference field after the reference field has been zoomed according to the motion vector in the second step. In the second step, the reference field may be zoomed out by eliminating pixels that are not adjacent in one of a vertical direction and a horizontal direction.
